More problems

Post by Roar More »

I played the entire 1939 scenario without the Allies invading Vichy territory. Vichy entered on the Allied side with the liberation o Paris, but as three separate entities. Vichy France units cannot combine with other Vichy Corps. Vichy France only had 10 rail available, making it impossible to move corps by rail. North Africa and Syria each had 30 rail. No leaders were available for Vichy HQs. Additionally, Syria produced no manpower, making it impossible to replace losses. I inadvertently produced two Vichy French HQs and could not disband the extra one after it was produced.

The only U-boats sunk during the course of the game were by land based aircraft. For most of the game, over 30 escorts were deployed to no avail. Why bother producing escorts?

There were numerous problems with Canadian production. Other than combat units, where did it go? Did the supply trucks, merchant marine landing ships and escorts become part of the UK pool? Also, nine shipyards disappeared. I went from 15 to 6. Also, Canadian air units can only get the enhanced reinforcement if stacked with or adjacent to a Canadian HQ.

There is no advantage to advancing escort research beyond '44. The attributes are the same for both years, according to the chart.

Playing as the Allies, Germany has conquered Vichy France and Spain in summer 1941. All English ports have somehow been mined and UK cannot engage in convoy activity, even though Scottish ports are not mined. How/why did the mining occur? How can it be removed?

Vichy - Usually players take the colonies for resources and the Axis collapse Vichy before they fall into Allies hands. The game engine can't merge all those VF colonies.

Escorts - I don't know what you did but Escorts work and are the main way you kill or damage subs. You need to advance the convoy tech for them to be effective. The most effective is 10 per lane. 1939-1941 you will take a pounding at the Allies

Canadian production - Minor countries that build support items go to the major power for use between all the controlled minor countries and the major power controlling them.

Escort tech - yea about right.

Mines - You need to elaborate because I don't understand what you mean. The UK gets red colored mines to protect itself vs invasions. They get them on the East and West coast. There was an exploit in the 1.00.08 version about mining and the Axis if they landed in the right spot.

Escorts - I had more than 10 escorts in the North Atlantic almost constantly and another 20-30 moved around among the other convoy routes for much of a full campaign and they never sank a U-boat. I put full UK research into escorts and got to the highest level as quickly as possible.

In a subsequent game, all convoys to and from the UK are blocked and marked as such in the convoy menu. I had assumed this was due to mining, but apparently not. How does this happen and how can it be undone? The manual seems silent on the issue. This more or less takes the UK out of the game as they have lost all access to oil.

Put up a link to the save game if it is vs A.I. so I can download it.

If it is PBEM post a screen shot of england and ireland.

A smart player will move his uboats back to base when they are hit 2-3 times in a round. So you won't sink one for a while if they play smart with the uboats. But the time in port prevents them from sinking your convoys as well.

Thanks for the quick reply.

All my games are versus the AI, so that is one heck of a smart program. Then again, it deployed, and left, U-boats within three hexes of Great Britain on a few occasions, which was the only way I could sink any.

I'll be the first to admit that I am not the most tech savvy person. I have no idea of how to put up a link to the saved game for you to download. Any help along those lines will be greatly appreciated.

I enjoy the game immensely, overall. Keep up the good work.

Thanks.
