1/2 way into first PBEM

Post by Dorky8 »

I'm adjusting to the scale, its a little quirky vs WiE game but you get used to it.

1) I think the game needs some gateways from the US & Brit to Egypt. Transporting the rest of the map is fine but US/GB- Egypt you cant go through Gibraltar and have to drag them around Africa. I would imagine many make it impossible with subs anyway. Axis can reinforce easily. Gateways are needed.

2) Research is much slower than WiE because there are less turns per year - research is turn based. This of course impacts both sides but I find it to slow. I think the same applies to diplomacy. I just notice the research right off the bat.

Still prefer WiE but enjoying this.

my 2 cents.

Why would you have 'gateways' or (loop scripts I'm assuming), on a global map? In WiE, these gateways simulate the rounding of Cape Hope, and it takes turns for transports and ships to arrive anyway.

As for getting used to the map scale...yeah it took me a bit to get used with Europe when I first tried WaW. One thing though, the corp/army unit thing makes more sense here then in WiE because of that scale difference.

my three cents anyway [:)]

How about they put in the "loop scripts" and you don't use them. [X(]

Seriously its just tedious, what ever. Good point on corps/army. Managing supply seems easier here.

I see from the tourney that the allied/axis winners are fairly even. You think the PBEM game is balanced?

yes PBEM is pretty balanced. the very best players might still have an advantage with axis, perhaps, but otherwise the game is well balanced, perhaps with an advantage for allies on intermediate level.
and you can go through gibraltar to reinforce egypt, but like in real life you would probably need to send protection to do that move, and if axis have lots of fleet and air forces there, it might be difficult, as it should be.

I agree that the Axis portal should flip to Allies if Gibraltar switches hands

Oh....I know what's happening here...its not that their tedious, it's that your forgetting to move some of your transports on this big map the next turn.

I don't know how many times I left a few transports stranded and had them start starving before I found them a few turns later. [:D]

Oh...Dorky meant this? If Gibraltar was in Axis hands? Well...I'd support that...for Gibraltar. Still would be dangerous as hell...but a fair thing game mechanic wise to happen.

No I meant its too risky for Allies to transport from Gibraltar (in Allied hands) to Egypt when the Italian (at war) Navy is in the Med.
