A/C upgrades

Post by goodwood »

Hi folks,
just a quick one, looked at the charts to see what A/C is updated with what, but is there any way I can find out the date my Wildcats will be updated with Hellcats etc?

Can't remember what month you'll see the F6F's ... take a look at the CV's that are scheduled to show up. Look for ones that come with F6F's already on board. That will give you a ballpark. It's pretty late in the game.

Hellcats

Post by Hornblower »

Its July '43 that the F6F shows up. 100 a month. If your in bad straights, and you have a good supply of F4U's in your pool, move a Fighter group from the Cv's to land base for a turn or two and they become F4U's. Then put em back on the CV's. Ok, maybe its not so fair. BUT the e-mails of hate you will get from your PBEM when he encounters F4U's out at sea is priceless. ;)

Hi Hornblower,

Does this apply to the Marine squadrons of Wildcats? I thought Wildcats upgraded only to Hellcats. Are you saying they will change to Corsairs? Or is it just the Carrier ones if you 'play the system' ?

By the way Spooky's site

http://uncommon-valor.chez.tiscali.fr/main_content.htm

should have the details of all upgrade paths and rates. Lot's of useful stuff there. The useful files with air replacement rates and upgrades are back in July 2002 :)

F4u's

Hi,

From the games I have played the USN wildcats upgrade to Hellcats if you keep them on the CV's. Marine wildcats upgrade to F4U's.

Although the tables Ive seen say the Wildcats upgrade to Hellcats, Wildcats will upgrade to Corsairs if they are on a land base and Hellcats if they are on a ship. It dosnt seem to matter if they are USN or USMC units.
There is only one tactical principle which is not subject to change. It is to use the means at hand to inflict the maximum amount of wound, death, and destruction on the enemy in the minimum amount of time.
