I'm pretty certain that at some point in the past there was at least the intent to make the LRDG bristish rather than rhodesia - doesn't seem to have been implemented, which of itself is not an issue
but once destroyed this unit cannot be rebuilt

Me neither. Those dudes look like they could use some Suds, Mountain Dew, or a Gatorade. Those desert rats of the British 7th were badass. Too hot for me, I'd have to stay home.

I'm jealous, which I was a cool kickass European. I'd have me a heavy accent, talk in half dozen languages, play me football (be a striker), listen to some Euro Techno Punk music and party on the Berlin Wall or Scottish pub. Europeans always wear styling shoes/boots/jackets, Americans dress sloppy & don't shave anymore.

Haha...I had a friend up in Alaska that was a teller of tall tales, and used a fake Scottish accent sometimes to tell them. One night in a Kodiak bar though, he ran into some real Scots...and that didn't turn out so well...[:D]

@OldCrowBalthazor --- Bro, I've been to Alaska, those dudes are outdoor solid. I was nothing but polite. Didn't want to get myself planted in the bottom of a icy lake. Closest I've been to real United Kingdom dudes were Irish Bars in Boston. Had a good time, young & drunk. The Brits I had drinks in Southwest Florida were civilized.

@Platoonist --- Cannot say what haggis is? Had my share of cornbeef & cabbage & potatoes. Love their salads. The bars are a given, and they will always put golf/tennis on for me. The Coffee, Pies & Cake are top shelf!

Haggis is described as a Scottish sausage or savoury pudding. What it actually is, is a sheep’s stomach stuffed with diced sheep liver, lungs and heart, oatmeal, onion, suet and seasoning. Meat is meat so the diced sheep parts shouldn’t make anyone too squeamish (unless you’re a vegetarian), but the stomach can be a bit unappealing.

I guess I will go with actor Mikey Meyer's old movie quote: "My theory is that all of Scottish cuisine is based on a dare."

Ah, thanks for the meal lesson. Yeah, I don't need the stomach lining. The rest, sure, give me a spoon. Can eat nearly anything, except the super spice foods. Love sushi.

@ElvisJJonesRambo---you don't know how close you were right about the 'bottom of a icy lake. comment...or perhaps you were?:)) Back in the 70's and 80's, at least in Kodiak, Alaska..they had a thing called the 'Blue Ticket'.

There was a group of old WW2 vets that served in the Aleutians.After the war, a bunch of these buddies came back and set up businesses...including some rackets as well. I worked for them for a brief time to pay my way one way or another for college. So they had this thing called the 'Blue Ticket', which literally meant a choice of an airline ticket to the wide blue younder, or as hanging bait in a crab pot in the deep blue sea, if you ran afowl of them.

So, its was a good thing you were polite when you visited. [:D]

A while back, I traveled to Laos to visit my wife's family and check out the Ho Chi Minh trail..(which was actually a series of roads with truck stops goodness sakes). Anyway, I had a side interest in ethno-botany lets just say....and read about the Lotus Eaters in Herodotus 'The Histories'..so wanted to give it a try.

Well now, while the seedpods are tasty like peas and contain aporphine, a mildly euphoric and sedative-like compound...the rest of the pod is god awful bitter and foul. Of course, after I took a big bite...I was gently told by a traveling companion who said "No! No! pod only!" as I'm now puking my head off.

I would have rather went with the Haggis. [:)]

Yeah, I'll stick with the haggis too. Better the devil you know.

Although you would have thought those clever Vietnamese would have sensed a better business opportunity with the HCM trail than a bunch of mundane truck stops. Can Ho Chi Minh Trail Mix be far behind? [;)]

Ha! Yep, I was in Alaska back in my Rambo days of my life. Went up there, did some boating, horseback riding, camping, and rafting. Each little adventure had its challenges. Remember the movie "Cliffhanger" with Sly Stallone? It was so d-mn cold, my bones shiver thinking about it now. We went out in half dozen rafts, down some rivers, that was easy enough. The rapids didn't scare me, if I wrecked, I could make shore, wouldn't drown. The part that terrified me, was the lakes. I'm in a raft, with 3 other idiots. The protection gear was extremely heavy. If some dumbass would tip the raft, we were out in the middle of a cold lake. You'd sink and/or freeze. This jackass beside me was barking to get tossed. He better be glad I'm a saved man, or I would have shoved him out & not looked back.

Horsebacking is easy for me. I can handle my own. The tricky part was driving from the Camp to the stables. My guide driver was some young local, who drove like a lunatic on a mountain road. I sat passenger, overlooking the cliff. I slipped a loaf into my pants from the view. Think Alfred Hitchcock's' North By Northwest.

Most others made negative comments, not me brother. I'm more like Paul, I'll get along with my habitat. Ended up smokine some weed, good bake on did the trick. May God bless Alaska.

On another thread, maybe I'll tell you about Vancouver, British Columbia.

@Platoonist---Those truckstops I was referring too were depots built under the jungle canopy in the 60's and 70's..giant ones. The US pilots called them 'Truckstops'. They dumped Agent Orange on em to expose those spots. Its quite beautiful up there and there's a narrow windy paved road in spots and the rest is dirt. Its still a maze actually.
