Any forces prepped for Geraldton? If you could somehow stage an invasion if most of his combat troops were gone . . . [X(]

Hopefully the Canberra can survive. If not, you do get another one.[;)]

More snow...

Will ponder the Chinese situation while I work in the driveway...

Morale...some of my troops are getting to 99. I am starting to think getting morale up (and a side effect disablements down) is a better option than digging in to forts off base. Course it is situational, and you have to feel free to throw away Chinese Corps to slow down the IJA -- in which case you aren't throwing them away![:'(]

Prioritizing reinforcements now to the US TOE and 8th Communist units.

Moving forward my one battery of 105mm howitzers...I think they are the best AT platforms China has. To the mountains or x3 terrain with them. I will ponder where the next batch of 105s go...to a artillery unit or into a US TOE unit.

Stuarts at Kunming need perhaps another 2 weeks before all the imp tanks are replaced with Stuarts, but also another 35-40 days to get the prep to 100 and their abysmal experience up.

Lashio looks like it will hold...

Ledo is building up nicely...flying in around 70 supplies with only a plane loss every three days. Blenheims. Might raise the rest percentage to 40%.

12 Yankee squadrons at Bombay now...half arrived with no problem, the other half in the next 2-3 days. Then the base forces start to arrive. Really need those base forces, but more training is never amiss.

Got a 3 plane squadron of beasts with recon pilots in the high 60s, they are starting to nose around looking for targets. Got a small squadron in US of Lightning recon planes....I guess these guys will head for Australia.

Looking to convert some bomber squadrons in Bombay to LB30s. I think I can manage two...

Got another transport squadron at Karachi...I am really using all transports to move troops in China/Ledo. They have been very busy.

LB30s were designed for Naval Search, to suppress the U-boats in the Atlantic. Therefore they have very poor defensive armament. Don't send them anywhere CAP might be flying.

They have a large payload...and should not really come near the enemy.

Here is a link about the death of Consolidated's Chief Test Pilot flying one of these...

Sad story. I wonder if it was something as simple as the B-24 having more sensitive controls - requiring less input movement from the pilot than the four engine British bombers. If the pilot pulled back too much on the "stick", he would get that vertical climb. It is much harder to get the nose back down than to pull it up because you are losing airspeed very quickly.

Yes, that one is more than capable to standing up to a Japanese division.

I am enjoying the logistical mini game for the Allies. My intention is to use lots and lots of Hubs and routes.

Look at the bright side, your Australian units will be very cheap to buy out!

If you can put even a small LRCAP at his fighters originating bases, then his OPs losses should go up even more. Even just a part part of a divided air unit should help, while the others train, rest, and/or repair aircraft.

Are your Aussie units from the Middle East going to try to make it to Australia?

No... They will secure India, and most importantly Ledo. Then they will prep for the Tavoy/Pegu area invasion. Another sweet unit appeared today in Aden, combat veterans with good TOE![:)]

Any idea of what an effective altitude is for that mission? He is flying high altitude sweeps and search.

I usually do it lower. This actually happened where the US Navy put CAP over Japanese bases on Formosa to catch the enemy aircraft landing while low on fuel. You would tend to see the results in higher OPs losses. Even a 10% LRCAP should help. A higher percentage would put more fighters over the base but at increases in fatigue levels. It is a good use for fighters such as the Buffalo . . .

As Japanese, think if this were done over Ledo with lots of unarmed transports. A player can't sweep their own base and as far as I know, the only way that CAP and such enemy LRCAP interact is if there is also a bombing attack since the LRCAP would show up as escorts.

Ok, I will give it a try, range 2 from Maryborough, with drop tanks but range set to 0 for LRCAP. Not really expecting much...

Post #16, this describes the situation.

Is the LRCAP on enemy's airport effective only against transport planes, or even against other outbound missions and planes?

It is effective on all outbound missions. Note that this is highly abstracted to mitigate limitations in the game engine, which is to my best knowledge also the reason for losses not showing up as A2A but rather as op losses.

fb.asp?m=4210898

The entire thread is short but a good reading.

Since the opponent's aircraft is flying low when taking off and has to fly low to land, that is why I suggest a lower level LRCAP. Since it is not shown as A2A, then it does not matter about the quality of the fighter as much - especially if the target is low on fuel and ammo with a tired pilot although I do not know if that is modeled.
