Menus, not just hotkeys

Post by CapAndGown »

I hope that there will be pop-up/drop-down menu items for every possible hotkey. I hate having to look up all the hotkeys in order to find some functionality that is only available through a hotkey. Please make it so anything you can do through a hotkey can also be done through some menu selection.

well you may find re-assurance if you have a quick glance at showcase #6 - pretty much everything is accessible either (a) right click on a map hex for the menus; (b) the tabs at the top mostly with drop down boxes; or, (c) the hotkeys.

Find which ever combination suits your preferred means of playing the game

edit: yes some things remain as hot-keys but in 5 years of testing WiTE2 I scarcely ever have used them apart from some obvious ones like the '8' key to access a supply mode.

I'm afraid that there are some functions that are still only available through hotkeys. There are after all 97 of them - it's complex. If we reproduced them all on the the right click menu (which is broadly linked to functionality of the hex at the point of selection) you'd be scrolling for ages. For the top bars, even with expanding the screen by adopting a higher minimum game resolution and re-configuring the layout by moving the city and turn detail up we simply don't have enough room for everything.

Those not replicated are mainly the highlight different units keys (ctrl-0 to ctrl-9) and some fuctions like moving up and down the chain of command that are much more useful as hotkeys.
