RE: AAR 1944
Very happy to see this AAR back in action. Do you expect to have a difficult time clearing out Goa as at Poona, or do you think the defense will fail more quickly here?
Calm down, dear boy! We're writers, not Vikings...

No, Goa will be a cakewalk compared to Poona as Goa is still an Allied base. The first positive adjusted av ratio (minus forts) will see the base surrendering as my tank rgts will seal the pocket. With my 9000 av there I don't expect to need more than two or three deliberate attacks to see the base fall and all troops surrender.
More of a question is the possibility of an Allied evacuation attempt but time is running against them.

here#s our first attack going in at Goa and as expected the enemy won't be able to hold out for long as our first attack already achieves a 3:1... losses within our units are more than acceptable even though our tank rgts are getting trashed again with one unit outright being destroyed... not that far from a 4:1 and we would have taken the base which wouldn't go according to our plans as our tanks haven't cut off the base to the NE yet... two and a halve dozen units with nearly 60,000 troops trapped at Goa...

RE: AAR 1944
looks like the enemy evacuation is on it's way as nav search has spotted several task forces even though I'm not sure about what is really coming in despite lots of sightings... the enemy definately has carriers in the region as we lost several Emilies and Dinah-IIIs on nav search today...
the IJNAF and IJAAF in India have been alerted and 500 fighters plus 350 bombers have been flown to the level 9 and 8 airfields of Bombay and Hyderabad to launch strikes against enemy shipping at Goa tomorrow... in the meantime our tanks keep marching onto the road NE of Goa to seal the pocket...

really, don't know what to say about this idiocy... after our 3:1 yesterday I made a mistake in only setting our inf and tank units to defend so all the artillery stayed on bombard... the result is as stupid as always, the idiotic counter bombardment kills off two of my heavy artillery units... on the receiving end of the bombardment the enemy takes one combat squad destroyed and one disabled... SO STUPID...
knowing about the YAY sayers, just order the Allied to bombard and they would do literally no damage to my troops and take way more themself... totally SILLY... ordering a bombardment my art units get trashed in one round, ordering a deliberate attack and two rounds of bombardments in that attack my artillery units take ZERO losses and it has been that way since release... since release!!! best way to use the artillery is to order an intelligence bombardment for a single unit at start and then just stand down all artillery until your combat units attack...

really, don't know what to say about this idiocy... after our 3:1 yesterday I made a mistake in only setting our inf and tank units to defend so all the artillery stayed on bombard... the result is as stupid as always, the idiotic counter bombardment kills off two of my heavy artillery units... on the receiving end of the bombardment the enemy takes one combat squad destroyed and one disabled... SO STUPID...
knowing about the YAY sayers, just order the Allied to bombard and they would do literally no damage to my troops and take way more themself... totally SILLY... ordering a bombardment my art units get trashed in one round, ordering a deliberate attack and two rounds of bombardments in that attack my artillery units take ZERO losses and it has been that way since release... since release!!! best way to use the artillery is to order an intelligence bombardment for a single unit at start and then just stand down all artillery until your combat units attack...

oh well, silly me... have flown back 500 fighters and 300+ bombers to both Bombay and Hyderabad to hopefully fly strikes against the evacuation convoys tomorrow... if Mundy picks the right number of troops he will load during the night and leave during the day which would surely reduce our strikes to ineffective, uncoordinated garbage while anti shipping strikes work quite well when the enemy is sitting at a base hex...
I guess the enemy won't be able to pick up all 30 units at Goa as we're speaking about some 60,000 troops but it is nevertheless perfect timing again as we will deliberate attack tomorrow and most likely take the base as our tank rgt in the NE is going to close the encirclement exactly tomorrow...

during the nav search phase we have spotted several big convoys, carriers, battleships, transports, freighters, all kind of stuff... what did the hundreds of bombers and fighters set to attack do during the morning? NOTHING... NOTHING AT ALL... not a single strike was even launched, from a level 9 and 8 airfield with air HQs...

all enemy task forces have been spotted so many times their detection levels would have been in the 30s if it wouldn't be capped at 10... while the weather was better during the morning when we had no strikes at all, now in the afternoon with Thunderstorms we see the first tiny bits of over 300 bombers attack into a hex with a carrier group and a troop convoy that has picked up troops from Goa during the night and left during the day (good move!)... this is a combined strike from Bombay and Hyderabad and while the escorts outnumber the CAP 3:1 the CAP still got to the bombers and took down over halve a dozen of them... out of the 18 Frances attacking with torps there were 11!! attacking from bad angles which means a 100% miss right away... left us with only a handful of bombers in bad weather and we have to cheer about a transport full of troops being sunk... 7 squadrons on CAP so there got to be a number of carriers but the total number of fighters on CAP is miserable... all that saves such a move is the game not being able to employ 800+ aircraft from the biggest available airfields to attack shipping... using LBA against shipping is more or less pointless if you don't have carriers engaging too when you go up against high value targets...

a second strike from Bombay against the carrier group idendifies several RN carriers that put up some CAP again... while the RN carriers take advantage of their armored flight decks the CVE suffers three 250kg bombs going through it's flight deck... not nearly enough to sink it due to the reduced bomb effects in Babes so without further damage this strike has only achieved losses within the attacking Grace unit...

no CAP over the target and two more transports will most likely sink... xAP Dunnatar is a huge ship and can easily shrug off that torp hit... wonder if that ship was suited for the evacuation of Goa...
and that's it when it comes down to airstrikes against shipping around Goa... a big convoy is still sitting at Goa, wasn't attacked even once... looking at my bomber units, most of them didn't even take off... ZERO strikes in the morning, sh*tty ones in the afternoon... just disappointing, out of 700 potential bomber sorties over the course of the day one gets 10-15% that wouldn't be able to achieve a single hit if the enemy has some decent CAP over his convoys... that's how the routines work, used to it, still disappointing... [8|] talking about level 8 and 9 airfields here...
thought the highlight this turn would be the mini chance to hit enemy shipping hard with our LBA strikes but that's like waiting for a big lottery win... a friend of mine always tells me that I have already won in the lottery if I don't play because that way I avoid the losses... same can be said about doing LBA strikes against shipping in AE, don't even try, the chances are minimal, no matter what you do and in the end you avoid any losses if you don't even try...

so that's actually this turn's highlight as our troops take Goa on their second attempt... there were some aircraft at the airfield that were left there damaged and the destroyed Hellcats must come from the CVE that was heavily damaged off the coast...
with the destruction of these troops at Goa the counter offensive in Western India comes to an end, starting at Poona, then Mangalore and now Goa the enemy has lost probably another 3,500 av plus countless guns and support squads... Mundy achieved a tactical victory though as he was able to evacuate 10 enemy units this turn for no real losses other than a couple of transports and an APD sunk, the damage to the two CVEs can be repaired at Colombo, air losses weren't severe on either side... strategically this is a real victory for us though as the enemy offensive in Western India was trashed the last couple of months and he just can't have adequate combat units anymore to mount anything serious... our troops from Goa will now head to the Jessore pocket to destroy the last remaining 30 units there...
these are the troops that were evacuated from Goa, parts of them drowned with the transports:

no CAP over the target and two more transports will most likely sink... xAP Dunnatar is a huge ship and can easily shrug off that torp hit... wonder if that ship was suited for the evacuation of Goa...
and that's it when it comes down to airstrikes against shipping around Goa... a big convoy is still sitting at Goa, wasn't attacked even once... looking at my bomber units, most of them didn't even take off...

RE: AAR 1944
today's airlosses show the superiority of the Frank/George against carrier based CAP as the escorts achieve a 2:1 against the CAP... add in the bomber losses and we're on the receiving side of course... looking at the results of the airstrikes it wasn't really worth it, even though we can easily make up these kind of losses but sinking only halve a dozen transports and damaging two CVE in a day worth of airstrikes of 800+ first line aircraft is, again, disappointing...
I have around 1,000 aircraft available to defend India against a naval operation and this day again shows me how useless LBA is against shipping... this brings me back to the Allied mega invasion of the Calcutta region that received so much critics from the readers and I have to raise the question again: "What do you think would have happened if super KB wouldn't have been at Singapore and available for the attack on Allied convoys around Calcutta?"
I dare to say that without super KB attacking the Allied invasion of Calcutta a year ago the whole situation would look totally different and it wouldn't be us winning the counter offensive in Western India but the Allied having cleared India and destroyed at least a dozen IJA divs while being on the offensive in or against Burma now. Having lost naval superiority in the Bay of Bengal meant having lost all the invading troops (150 units!) and having lost the following operations in Western India.

the surrender of Allied troops at Goa resulted in just over 1000 victory points... we need another 562 points to reach 100,000...

Lol!
It's not really a difference in the Marshalls though, it just looks different because I had way fewer aircraft there. Usually there were two bomber units and one flew, makes it 50% in the end. In India, I've got like a dozen bomber units, two fly, makes it 16%. I can't put nearly the same number of aircraft into the Marshalls as I haven't got comparable airfields there. Bombay and Hyderabad would be the perfect airfields for strikes with level 9 and 8. Well...

Congrats!!!
Massive victory! I've never come close to anything this large. Wow!

So, have you got recon on Ceylon? Can you invade ... knock him out completely?
Lol, the Ceylon question again [;)][:D]
Yes, got recon on all bases there and yes, I could take it out. But at what cost? And for what gain?
The majoritiy of troops on Ceylon are most likely support units and a couple of inf and tank units. My army in India is massive compared to what is on Ceylon. I guess he has some 250.000 troops left on Ceylon but he also has hundreds of fighters plus the same number of bombers there, plus the whole Royal Navy. If there would be a land bridge I would just move there and take them out, but mounting a major invasion that involves the whole IJN wouldn't be worth the losses and I have no doubt we would suffer losses, mainly carrier based aircraft from super KB. The Allied can't compete with super KB in the Bay of Bengal but they easily can over bases on Ceylon, Mundy probably has several hundred P-47 alone there.
Just imagine my invasion convoys moving close to Ceylon under the cover of super KB and Mundy puts the RN BBs to Sea and keeps them at Colombo, a level 9 airfield. That would mean KB would fly against a CAP that would shred my carrier based aircraft in no time, for no gain. So as long as he keeps his Navy covered by that number of aircraft on Ceylon there is no chance to invade. Without his Navy I could bombard the bases but that's still more than dangerous as even a couple of freighters would draw airstrikes from KB which leads to a disaster. It's already late 44 and even if KB can still most likely go 1:1 with any Allied carrier group (we will have 850 Sams on the carriers by mid October) KB can't go offensively against LBA, something that is hard if not impossible in late 42 already.
But I don't have to take out Ceylon (even if it would be a great feeling at this date), the Allied have lost all their offensive capabilities on the Western front IMO so Ceylon won't be anything else than an Allied POW camp that is guarded by the Royal Navy and thousands of aircraft.

RE: AAR 1944
Edit to my above post about Ceylon. Checked the bases again this turn and he has far from 250,000 troops there. Recon shows some 160,000 so that nets to not even 100,000 troops and that has to be mostly support units according to the high unit count. The enemy front in the West is effectively gone after we have cleared the pocket near Jessore which will happen within the next week most likely.
RE: AAR 1944
Given the number of Marine Divs you are taking out, he has also depleted to some extent his Eastern Front capabilities as well.
You still own South India, Madras and south, correct?
Can you post the strategic map .... having trouble imaging your situation ...

Fake an invasion, put nimble ships in front as a CAP trap and see what happens . . . [:D]

RE: AAR 1944
You had the ability and resources to invade Ceylon in 1942 but choose not to because the 1942 Commonwealth units would've been "dangerous" alone with the "mighty" Hurricane's and Warhawks that were no match against the Tojo at the time.
I'm not trying to be mean but you had the ability and resources to turn Ceylon into a Indian POW camp and could've used it as target practice for the troops that would've grouped up into one large army in Colombo and force to Royal Navy to leave or die since the Allies did not have great fighters against the Tojo and the Zero was still formidable.
The loses would've ranged from 5-25 Merchants depending on how the RN responded by either fighting and dieing or by running away, the Allied carriers weakened at the time were camping Hawaii and had zero plans on leaving but would've raided the Marshall Islands if KB had stayed too long.
Some Destroyers could've been lost but that would've been negligible for the sinking of a Battleship or Modern Cruiser.
Troop loses would've hurt a small bit but by 1942 the IJA had conquered India and apart from guarding the Soviet Border, Garrisons and skirmishes in Northern Australia they could've easily dealt with the loses since it take till 1944 for the IJA to be on a full scale military campaign with the exception of the destruction of the American Division in Australia.
So taking Ceylon would've hurt but was easily manageable.
However deciding not to invade Ceylon left one unintended consequences for the Allies, that would come in the form of the attempted invasion of Calcutta with turned into a massive fiasco on both sides as the biggest Amphibious invasion in WITP:AE History turned into one of the biggest handovers of POW's into Japanese hands in this games entire History.
This disastrous invasion was based in Ceylon and thanks to how close it was to India it allowed the Allies to use almost every type of ship imaginable for carrying the troops on their doomed mission and it effectively secured the Japanese position in India for the entire year and most of 1945.
This was all thanks to Ceylon being in Allied hands, if it weren't in its hands the butterfly effect would've severely changed what could've happened in India and instead an invasion of that scale could only be preformed against the SRA from Australia as the base of operations.
