Turn 1

Post by Belisarius »

I'm no C&C pro either, so this will get interesting...

-------Battle Briefing-----------------------

The setting is somewhere in France (I guess), we're just a few weeks after Overlord and the US army is steadily pushing the heroic Soldaten of the Fatherland before them. Our command is merely a reinforced company, but we're doing a lot better than our neighbors. Sadly, our sector is far too wide for us to cover even in a single echelon, so priorities have been made to reinforce key strongpoints. Our own recon as well as Army intelligence have clear indications of an Ami offense in our sector anytime soon... We are given armored support from the Panzerdivision further behind along with a few artillery pieces, a dear sight these days. :)

Our Army HQ wants us to hold this area as long as possible, and given opportunity, to crush the advancing American forces as well as securing the sector 1-2 km in front of us. Ambitious!

-------------------------------------------

Bikers rush forward to snag a few control points, just to show the Amis who's boss! :p Discipline has always been a bit slack with those guys... The rest of the troops finishes their preparatory movements and are ready to go. No sight of Onkel Sam.

Eerily silent.... not even smoke markers....

Recon armored cars parked within range of one of my three inch guns. Bad move.
A group of M4's pop up from behind a hill and shot many times at another armored car only to miss many times. That is all for this turn.

Ack! Our commander said we'd be facing foot infantry! He must still be delirious since coming back from the Ostfront.

Awright, a gazillion 3", 37mm, 75mm and the HORRIBLE .50 cals have hammered our units in front. The loss of a halftrack and a few rowdy bikers were a cheap trade for the first contact with the Amis.

We move cautiously forward while we see the effects of C&C - An Opel truck has the wrong objective and he doesn't have orders enough to change them. I also don't want to waste A0 orders for that....after all it's just a truck. :p Conclusion: PAK stays where it is.

Our scouts in the north report weird things. Cmdr Tatro, are you baiting me?!!? :D

All of are units want to charge backwards. What you fool you need to give them objectives to charge the other way.
Objectives what are thoughs.
You idiot that is the battle plan where you tell your troops to head for a certain spot on the map and they go there.
Um ok sir but we don't seem to have enough orders to get our men to turn around.

Grrrrr. Well not a lot happened this turn, since my men had to use up all there orders to set objectives facing the enemy. :)

The Amis seem reluctant to approach us. They must fear the Men in Grey!

Our rowdy bike gang is still being harrassed by an unseen unit, but the fire we recieves smells like Greyhound. I can't believe how many shots those have! In the same area we swallow the bait and put a 4.2" platoon under fire. I wonder if it was worth it...

We are still trying to turn our units around so that they are facing the enemy. We have located a platoon of Panthers and fired on them with a platoon of Hellkats. Nothing but bounce, spang, and ping. Can't penatrate the armor at this range. :(

Hah, see I knew the Mortar Ridge would be a trap! :p Just too good an opportunity to lay low behind the ridge, draw out opfire with the mortars and then shoot and scoot with the Hellcats. Well, I'm glad Panthers have thick skulls. :)

Unfortunately, in order to get his own crew to regain position, the platoon leader wasted all his orders, so the two bombarded Panthers are unable to move out of harm's way. Fortunately, the Kat in the most dire straits decided to backpedal out of range all by his own! Sometimes it's a good thing to run away.

We snag the middle VHs just for fun. Wer ist die Amerikaner?

We got lucky and got a top hit. :) on one of the Panthers. One down a company to go.
We have all but one of my platoons turned around now and facing the enemy. Starting to move units forward. :)

Ofcourse. They get a top hit. On the Leutnant's Panzer. Now my lead unit in that platoon is without a ride.

Not much else, we use the mobility of the bikers to scout as much as possible. One squad scouted a little carelessy and bumped into a US scout group. They had no problems decimating the riders. :( More bikers swing around the hill to aid, achieves nothing and are now stranded in Hellcat territory. Ouch.

Gary's artillery is emtying it all on a location where I guess he thinks I am. :p Well, no damage reported at least. Our 120mm continue to batter the 4 deuces, and one grenade plummets right through a Dodge. KBAM!

We have all our units facing the enemy now and have started to move forward. Running into many German recon units and we are having fun with Quad 50's and target practice. Nothing like watching the Third Riech Dance to that sound. :)

Quad .50 cals, huh? They should put a ban on those things! Inhuman!  Keep it up and you'll force me to dig up some supplies of mustard gas... I'm sure it's here somewhere.... :p

Nothing much. Spotted a quad-50 rearing its' ugly @ss in our direction, but had nothing available to get a LOS. MY LUCK! Parked a Panther all in the wrong spot, so now it has 4 4.2" mortars facing it from both flanks. Don't expect that one to survive.

Weird battle this is. Gary knew I'd be spread thin so he's thrown his mortars out front! I've spotted 7 so far (for a total of 336 points), and there must be more considering the amount he's pouring on me from indirect fire.

I can't do much. Lack infantry, armor and just about anything else to even come close to that .50 cal cauldron. How am I then expected to be able to put a AP round anywhere?

WE KILLED A PANTHER WITH AN M4!!!!
Wow how did we do that.
It was a side shot sir.
Its a sign that is what it is.

Charge!!!

Now that all of our units are faced the right direction we charge out to take down a platoon of panthers that were bothering us up on top of a hill. Three down, one more to go. :)

We have finished off that platoon of Panthers in the North and are moving forward along all fronts. We have run into a lot of recon troops and have delt with them acordingly.

What about the enemy troops.

Sir still no contact. It is strangly quite.

Wow, look at that. I'm having my a$$ handed to me here. On a silver platter.

Gary has scrambled a LOT of forces to our right and is now steamrolling over any resistance. It wouldn't suprise me if he has commited around 2/3 of his force to this thrust. Good thinking by him, I can't get to the few he must have left behind.

Alright, I think this is already settled. But he'll have to come and take me apart, piece by piece. No surrender!

Only positive part: His FO fled after the mortar barrage. Can't be the last and only one, though.

And for the "gamey" part: I won't whine now, but for our next battle - spotting at 100% in H2Hfr just isn't the ideal. We're both walking around here with flourescent "camo" and beamlights on our helmets. ;) One just can't avoid seeing every unit within LOS.
The default 60% works better, I've tried it in a few other battles.

Sound good to me, so next time when YOU :) set up the game change the visibility preference to 60%. I thought that was the permenant setting in H2Hfr

Right. :)

Well, our northern forces are obliterated, but at least one of our Panthers nailed a Greyhound. Woohoo

The vile enemy is also trying to get through in the south. We poke at his eyes and a recon team joins the Greyhound...at least we can hit *something*.

One step closer...
