Why?
Why can't we have a Turn Based game that uses graphic like in the RTS games? Take Medieval Total War for example, I would love to see that game turned base.

I'll have to check Squad Assult out. Its hard to out into words but why can't turn based players get games that look like this.
You could have many men in a unt and move/fire it as one unit. Each man could represent any number of men.

Don't have to go that far... as Eric stated EYSA does it just fine. Without any "posterboard" imitation units. Full 3D.Kid wrote:I'll have to check Squad Assult out. Its hard to out into words but why can't turn based players get games that look like this.

Of course... you won't be harvesting wood/rock/iron/gold/fish/meat. Just concentrating on tactics.

Just a quick opinion here. I don't like that at all.Kid wrote:Each man could represent any number of men.
I want my men to represent the men actually fighting there with 1-1 correspondence. This is for tactical games. For strategic level games I want neat, informative, symbolic icons.
A generic tank or soldier representing a division shooting at others in animated 3D glory, yippee :p. No offense meant but that is just ... lame, IMNSHO. I can stomach a small picture of the most representative equipment the unit has as part of the unit's icon or especially in an encyclopedia but that's it. I'm not playing with toy soldiers here, I can do that with my miniatures when I want
EDIT: spelling
I'm thinking more along the lines of US Civil War and Napoleon games. Take Talonsoft's Battleground series for example. The Graphics were very good at the time but they were still 2D done from a 3/4 view. Why not re-do them using true 3D giving the player the ability to zoom and Pan. Make the terrain much more realistic.
I've been playing board games since 1967 and I have hundreds of miniatures. I want to use the power of the computer to combine the two. I would like to see the Turn based-games catch up to the RTS in terms of graphics. I only play turn-based games.

Talonsoft's Battleground series was all about WWII. I have plenty of them.
Don't get me wrong - I love the age of reason for battles. There's just not much to choose from.
As for miniatures... as stated before, you can set the time in between giving orders, you can give orders while things are happening, you can give orders during those self-same pauses, you can even pause them in single player and order when you feel like it. I understand you're an old-timer tabletop hexer as many of us are. The extra added part is that all the units can be easily painted. Amongst other things.
You sound like a modder at heart - especially with your miniature preference. Ever feel like seeing your paints actually moving in real time??
You cannot tell me this looks unappealing... especially if you can paint everything.

WOAH that's the BEST screenshot I've seen yet of EYSA Nefarious, can you post some more??? Some H2H action maybe??? Or is that allowed? Don't wanna do anything against the rules.
WE/I WANT 1:1 or something even 1:2 death animations in the KOIOS PANZER COMMAND SERIES don't forget Erik!
and Floating Paratroopers We grew up with Minor, Marginal and Decisive victories why rock the boat with Marginal, Decisive and Legendary?
Oh and MAC did you ever play STEEL PANTHERS? heh, as I recall there was "one" icon for a group of tanks in that game.
Four or Five tanks per icon....wasn't there? hehe

Yes I did play, no there weren't. One icon for one tank, thank you. Even in Steel Panthers 3 there were all those little icons for all the tanks, not that I played more than the demo of it.ravinhood wrote:Oh and MAC did you ever play STEEL PANTHERS? heh, as I recall there was "one" icon for a group of tanks in that game.Four or Five tanks per icon....wasn't there? hehe
I'll up the stakes by saying that Combat Mission has not appealed to me mainly because a group of men is a lousy three guys there. EYSA looks so much better with each man being portrayed
A game I own that has used the icons I despise nowadays is Alpha Centauri. Pretty fun game but doesn't look good.
Also, I prefer my tactical games to be real time or at least simultaneous execution and strategy games turn-based.

Yep, same reason I don't play it habitually. The legos representing a squad is a bit of a turn off. It's just plain un-sexy. Especially when they move.Mac wrote: I'll up the stakes by saying that Combat Mission has not appealed to me mainly because a group of men is a lousy three guys there. Well, there is a good game turn-base with 3d graf. Only problem it is set in future. Take a look at battle Isle 4 (Andosia War) .I played that one for a hole time. i loved it even it wasn't a ww2 setting.

Battlegroung 3 - Waterloo
Battleground 4 - Shilo
Battlegroung 5 - Antietam
Battleground 6 - Napoleon in Russia
Battlegroung 8 - Prelude to Waterloo
Battleground 9 - Chickamauga
Are the ones I own.
I have all thier WWII games as well. However, I am not just talking about one specific era...I would love all wargames to go 3D turn based.

You've won me over I'll get this game and give it a try. The grapic you posted is very nice and has me wanting to lead an assult.
