NEwb--Finally won his first battle

Korsun Pocket is a the second game using the award winning SSG Decisive Battles game engine. Korsun Pocket recreates the desperate German attempt to escape encirclement on the Russian Front early in 1944. The battle is a tense and exciting struggle, with neither side having a decisive advantage, as the Russians struggle to form the pocket, then try to resist successive German rescue efforts and last ditch attempts at breakout.

NEwb--Finally won his first battle

Post by bostonrpgmania »

Thank you for all the help for my previous post on wiking whiteout.
I played the game with comp- and maximum supply and reinforcement +combat results
For some, with this advantage you cannot lose :)
But for me (complete newb to this genre), to your surprise, I lost
5 consequtive games!

Last night, I noticed that my big mistake so far was not considering
division integrity
once I pay attention to it, combat was much easier.
I won by 220 (overwelming victory)!
Now onto a little bit of higher level (maybe computer instead of computer-)

BTW, I really like this scenario
(manageable unit numbers with intense battle)

Congrats!
With your combat experience I´m sure you can successfully manage the 2nd Ukrainian front scenario...as the Soviets of course!

thank you for your reply!
In fact I played again the same scenario with normal computer and I won by 200 points! Again the key was the position of troops and regiment bonus.
I really have a feeling that I am learning about the game thanks to your help in the other posts.

I will try to master this scenario at harder difficulty and will move to the one that you recommended after that. I have heard that scenarios included with the game, even though it is only 12 turns give you a overwhelming feeling since the units to be controlled is very large..am I correct?
Thank you

Hi!
There is no special reason, it was just a suggestion because I consider it to be a good scenario for new players to achieve a first victory. There are many units to manage as the Soviets, but hey, you kan keep the Krauts running ;) .
I like the 1st Ukrainian front more, because there are fewer divisions to handle, and it provides a true challenge for both sides.
On the horizon there are maybe two fanmade(I think) scenarios that are also interesting for you - and for me, because I like shorter battles.
The first is the "Race to the Meuse" scenario in the Ardennes battle, which will be part of the upcoming patch. The second one is - "Trouble at Bastogne" - there´s some information over at http://run5.wargamer.com/
Have fun playing the game!

Race for the Meuse is not available just yet.. it will be issued at the same time as the 1.1 patch in early November.

Trouble at Bastogne is probably about a week away from release (I know I keep saying one more week!).. and then there is Assault on Port Stanley (the Falklands) too look forward to which I am developing, and I have commenced work on Gallipoli (which looks quite interesting) and will probably be released before Port Stanley.

For more info head to Run5.
Isn't that bizarre?
