New update for railroad transport

Post by gliz2 »

Dear Guys,

Any chance that the railway transport get updated with the new update?

Very strange that naval transport or air drops allow for movement after disembarking while the railway transportation doesn't.
Plans are worthless, but planning is essential.

Yeah. Movement points remaining should reflect time spent transporting.

If duct tape doesn't fix it then you are not using enough duct tape.

What about the Unit Supply Level affecting how far the train can move? Example: a unit with 100% supply can move 275 hexes by rail, while a unit with 50% supply can move only 137 hexes by rail. Why do trains use each individual units' supply? Shouldn't this be considered to be wrong [:(]

Yeah that's wonky. Fixing it would require the burning of 'precious coding time'. Too bad old broken things are being ignored for new broken things.[:D]

That's unfortunately broken logic.
I cannot understand why this haven't been updated.
Such an basic but crucial feature. So sad

Is Matrix not willing to reinforce the existing design team? One more designer may tackle more bugs, no?

The current developer (Bob) refuses to take anyone on. Says it's a trust issue. Concerned about pirating. Curse you pirates, curse you. [:'(]

I'm not sure there is anything to steal. The code is from 1998 and it seems increasingly difficult to maintain. The rules are good, so maybe the developers should think about a new design with modern technology.

There are no developers. There is A developer, Bob. He refuses to let anyone else help. Maybe it's a control thing. Dunno. He is concerned someone may take the code and make it public. But I'm sure there would be legal ramifications by Matrix/Slitherine. Previous producers, like Tamas, had no problem having volunteers help with the programming. Tamas said Ralph had no problem with someone else helping with the programming. So like a said, it may be a control thing with Bob since his superiors had no problem with having others, non paid others, helping with the programming. [;)]

So, I gather that anything I say on the Development Board will soon be lied about on the main board.

I don't have anything to do with hiring anyone. But is it so inconceivable that a bad apple taken on would turn us into an open source project if they get into a snit like you're doing right now?! What happened to your NDA?

Bob + Ralph = 2 developers. Unless someone is gone?

This is not a bug. It's working just like Norm intended.

Any plans for making it more sophisticated are not something I can talk about yet.

What happened to your NDA? I see you posting about all manner of things that have yet to be completed and some not even started. So you only have authority to do something when you think you can and no authority to do something when it doesn't fit your agenda? And where did I lie?

The NDA applies to game development. Not asking for volunteers to help with the programming. If someone can't post about that subject exactly how would anyone know how badly more programming help is needed? Tamas knew and Erik Rutins knows how screwed up the development of this game is. Ralph did tell Tamas he would be ok with volunteers. Tamas did say Tamas would be ok with volunteers and even asked me if I know of anyone. And when you are approached all you can say is how someone will steal the code. With that attitude there will never be any other programming done except by you. No lies, just facts. YOU said if anyone came on they would STEAL the code, make it open source. I didn't say that. YOU did.

All you ever have to do to get help approved is to let Erik know you need that help. It will be approved as long as you accept the help. I would wager he might even see his way to making you the official producer if you are not already.

BTW @ncc...Ralph is awol for personal reasons again. So Bob - Ralph = 1 developer

And if you want to kick me off the team, which is mostly a ghost town, go ahead. No hard feelings. [;)]

I doubt if I've done as much as Larry but what the heck. [:D]

Other than about Commanders (which I got permission to discuss first) I can't think of what you're talking about.
And where did I lie?

In bold above. All I said was that it was it was risky. It is. And I certainly don't control hiring.
The NDA applies to game development.

It applies to everything that is discussed on the Development Board. You illustrate just how risky bringing some unknown in would be.
