USSR Infantry

Post by Gilber »

there is a problem with the attack and defense parameters of the Russian infantry (army and corp) which since update 1.20 are identical to the parameters of the German infantry.
This problem should be fixed quickly, otherwise the games in progress will lose their interest.
hoping that it helps[:)]

Ummm... yes, so there is... THAT explains why my defence against Barbarossa is going so well. The Russian Armies with level 3 Infantry Weapons are going to be world-beating...

You are right, sorry about this as I must have changed some unit statistics and therefore lost the USSR's specific settings in the process.

Thanks for reporting it and I will get it fixed for the next patch.

It won't help you I'm afraid, as it's a campaign change and they only take effect with new games.

Sorry, all I can add is that if you still win then you can be very pleased with yourself.

Is the nature of this problem that all existing games should be voided? I am playing as the Allies and want to win properly - not because some bug makes my Russian infantry stronger than they should be. Or will limiting my Russians to Inf Weapons 2, rather than going for level 3, be enough to offset the advantage? I assume not as the initial advantage has already occurred.

Is there the possibility in the future of being able to apply changes to existing games?

I will never get the diplomacy advances that I got in this game again and am not happy that the game has been 'tainted'! :)

I understand, I'm in a similar position. Offsetting it by not researching level 3 would certainly be a good move towards mitigating its effects.

I think on another thread someone said we should accept this problem and go on with our games. The logic was I think that these "errors" happen all the time so the players of both sides should just live with it. I do not agree. When an error is made with a rule such as "Supply" it affects both players in the same manner. This error has a positive effect on the USSR and a negative effect on the Axis. Unless you are Fafnir or Sugar and have beaten the USSR by early 43 the error crushes Germany's USSR attacks thereafter.

Is there any kind of ETA on when this will be resolved? Nothing specific, but would be nice to know if it was going to take weeks or months to get an update.

Hopefully soon, patch will be submitted by Monday and it is just a matter of time after that if all goes well on the production team side of things to get the patch ready for official release.

Is there perhaps someway to standardize all the INF units?

Frex:
All countries have a max level of 3, and the their base stats adjusted so that level 3 is equivalent to existing (non-USSR) level 2 and level 2 is equivalent to existing (non-USSR) level 1.
USSR starts at 0 like they do currently.
GE starts at level 2 (equivalent to their current existing starting level 1)
Everyone else starts at level 1.

I do realize that this would require some additional fine tuning since their are some USSR units (Shock Army, CAV, SF, Mech, GAR) that don't promote to level 3. Those units would need some form of tweeking OR the USSR would need some form of compensation for the fact that those units would be weaker than their current rules equivalent units and cost more to promote up (as they would need an additional level of promotion).

Additionally all the INF units might need to have their base cost dropped slightly to account for the additional cost of the extra level of promotion.

It is certainly a plausible approach, though as you say it would complicate income/expenditure more as all countries would have to pay more for unit upgrades, even if all starting units commence the war with the levels we think are appropriate for them.

There's also the issue with Minors, as on joining the war they will either have no upgrades, or all applicable upgrades. This means that the differential between them and their potential allies and opponents are greater, or that they are entering the war fully powered - possibly overpowered compared with what we would like.

Other engine changes could possibly offset that, but with things as they are the simplest solution is just for me to correct this and to try to double check it again before every patch is released.

Agreed.

My idea would have been better suited at the design/early development level.

Is the problem solved or are there still balancing issues? I wonder about the possibility of level 3 infantry weapons for the Soviets.

Hi Magellanus,

The introduced issue has already been resolved with the latest patch.

Soviets can still research to level 3 infantry weapons, but this is intended as their stats are a bit different from the rest (e.g. these stats were corrected back to what they were before so all is good again).
