Disappearance of ship I ordered

So I order a new construction ship, but I get no message about it completing.

I check Construction Yards=> Ships waiting to be constructed. It is not listed.

I check the list of construction ships. It is not listed.

I go back to the order screen, and the current amount of construction ships had increased by one.

??? What the heck? All I can think is that I am lacking a resource to complete construction, but even if that were the case, wouldn't it be listed as "waiting to be constructed" and why would it be part of the current amount of ships?

Totally mystified, but I need that ship!

Construction ships are constructed by the planet....not the shipyards; so check the planet and see.
Planets only create one construction at a time so the delay may be it is busy retrofitting the space port or building a colony ship?

Your new ship is almost certainly on "automated mode", so as soon as it was built, the computer sent it off to do something. That is the default setting, so you have to keep an eye on new ship construction as even the warships will often be sent off on a mission of some sort.
