I'm surprised you are out of HI...I know you inherited this game, but fuel shipments must have stopped very early for that to happen. If factories run into 1944, you should have an ample stockpile of HI points

That would also explain lack of fuel and supply!

June 1945 Update

Post by durnedwolf »

We are around June 10 as I type.

I was able to get that TF for fuel to Tokyo and refueled my carriers, a few BC and cA, and a few DD. I was really quite proud of getting the fuel and getting my TF back to Tokyo in one piece. I loaded all my best fighters, dive bombers, and Torpedo Bombers onto my carriers.

I was able to sink a few ships between Japan and Formosa but Roger has so many TFs around the area that my air groups pretty much went after small-cheese instead of any of the meatier task forces that mouse-intel could see on the map.

Eventually, I was running short on fuel with no opportunity to get more. I drove KB back east and into the Kurile Islands towards the Sea of Okhotsk, where it looked like there were a few allied carriers.

There were more than a "few" enemy carriers.

KB ran into an allied SCTF near Uruppu-jima at night that spanked my ships and a few of my carriers. Later, during the day, there were far too many allied aircraft attacking my TF for my older fighters on CAP to prevent damage to my carrier group. And my attack aircraft, when they attacked then enemy carriers, their escorts were not strong enough to really do anything.

The whole thing was a bad dream but from the options I had available, there wasn't much else to do. W/O fuel, they'd have just been sunk by Rogers aircraft later in the game.

So for now, I really have no navy left and my aircraft in and around Japan are totally outmatched and outgunned. In truth, I'm just waiting for an invasion to throw my Japanese troops at.

End of the Road. I learned a lot from the experience. Thanks to Roger for letting me work through the end game as Japan.

September 1st, 1945. Roger clobbered the heck out of Japan. I was surprised it was only a marginal victory for him. I had nothing left to throw at him except rocks...

If it ended September 1st, 1945, then he missed a decisive victory by one day:

In addition, if the Allies score
an Automatic Victory after August 31, 1945, the victory scored will only be an Allied Marginal
Victory (unless the Allies have used 3 or more A-bombs, in which case the game would end
a draw).

I have just had an interesting peek into the other side. I have to thank Mike for taking this on so we both could see what happened. I will conclude my own AAR in the next few days. I must put on record he had a thankless task which he took on and made me think a lot. A great opponent and he kept me busy during these months of pretty much lockdown for me.

If anyone wants to see where we were in detail from my side feel free to drop me an email and I will send the last Allied orders and password.

Good job to you both taking the conflict to the end is the exception and not the rule and I am sure there were many lessons learned by going the distance that can be applied in future contests.

We've decided to go a few more rounds. Roger really-really wants to take out Tokyo and I really-really want to see what a nuke does in this game. So much to learn and I've only been playing this game for a mere 16 years or so... [:)]
