Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Axis: Operation Husky questions

Post by VonWulfen »

Hello all.
Having now finished Operation Husky as the Allies I have decided to play it again as Axis.
I have a number of units on the mainland that need to deploy in Sicily namely, 1st fallschirmjäger division, XIV Panzer corps and the 29th PzGren division.
I cant quite work out how to get these units on to Sicily.
The fallschirmjäger I could drop but it would be a very big risk.
Is it possible to use the transport planes more like a taxi to land on one of the airfields, rather than para jump?
As for the other units, I don't seem to have enough port capacity to ship them across.
Im sure I am missing something as im still learning the game but could really do with some advice on dealing with these problems.
Cheers

as long as you control both Messina and Reggio Calabria, simply move them across the ferry hexes, it costs MP but is just an expensive form of normal movement

So many thanks.
I had no idea I could cross without transport ships.
But at least I learned something new :)

with the allies in reverse its a bit more tricky, the rules for how to gain control of a contested ferry hex are a bit complex and often you may need to place a TF in the hex so you move land units to invade
