Sounds like either your download was corrupted or your anti-virus/security software may be interfering. I'd suggest a re-download to a fresh file as that will most likely resolve this for you.

Oh wow! But yes, download rates are terrible... I tried all the datacenters from the download pages with no difference (even with the one that showed 0 current load). I'm in Europe.

i also have the same VM speed, but depending on where i use it, also depends on how quick it comes, steam with the larger network can sometimes be the quickest apart from M/S servers, then next time joeblogs down the road with a one man band setup with me being the only one on it[X(][8|][:D][;)]

What is the exact file name you see for what you downloaded? What format does Windows think it is?

The only other similar report is from a customer with Firefox where the browser somehow download it as a PDF. In that case, redownloading from the Members Area / My Page resolved it. This may also help:
