Game is locking up and not responding

Post by Zemke »

Today I have tried to play two of the scenarios, Leningrad and Minsk to learn the game, in that order. During my first game, not sure you can count it as a game, it locked up while I was hitting the one to the top buttons having to do with Air. In the second game, I was able to finish my first turn, the AI took awhile and I thought it was going to lock up again then, but it finished. Beginning my own turn, I hit the assigned air directives to assign or check to see if the air was assigned to one of my Panzer Armies, and it has been on that screen ever since, "Not Responding". I may reboot my machine and see if I can open the save.

Could you post a DxDiag please? I assume it did not crash in any of these cases? Depending on your system, the AI can take some time to think but it should always return to progress the game. However, if you try to click and take more actions while it's thinking, Windows can act as if the game is not responding when it's actually just busy thinking. With that said, Minsk for example is a small scenario and really should not take much time to think.

Which air button exactly caused the first issue?

Gound Support air directive

Is that the DirectX Diagnostic tool? Are you asking for my computer specs? Oh, I rebooted and the save file did open the game, at the start of my 2nd turn.

Also, when I hit execute the first phase Air Directives, the screen will blick black, then pop back on, strange.

Last edit, yes my computer is OLD! Built-in 2010, by yours truly, but it has provided great service.

Yes, some operations can cause game going into "not responding" state on slow machines. I think the weather switch would be the heaviest on from the top menu. I'll see if it can be improved. Unfortunately some of such lock ups are really hard to spot when you develop on fast PC.

I'll add that you're also on Windows 7, which is no longer fully supported by Microsoft. Your system is very fast for 10 years ago, but definitely close to the minimum specs these days. You should expect to be patient and assume that the game just needs more time and see if it ever truly "locks" or if it's just thinking.

Sounds good, I was going to build a new computer this past fall, and could not get a graphics card, so I put it off. The graphics card market has gone bat shit crazy.

I never changed to Windows 10 on my desktop after my laptop switched and I had no idea what I was doing anymore. By the time I learn an operating system, they change it.

Also for you guys, not me, after I rebooted the computer yesterday no real issues.

Thanks for the quick response. You guys are great.
