Advice on adding custom commander needed.

Post by VonWulfen »

Hello all.
I recently started learning to play WitP:AE.
One of the first things I did was add a RP custom commander using the editor, a Submarine commander in this case.
I have just been digging through the OOB screen but the lowest rank character/leader seems to be a General.
Is this the lowest rank that has a character info panel?
I was hoping to create a Panzer commander but it seems I will have to create a Panzer Division general instead.
Before I even attempt to do this I just want to check if it is even possible?

The lowest command positions in WitE2 are corps commands, division commands are not portrayed.

That being said you can create custom leaders with custom name, photo and stats. The lowest rank possible is Generalmajor (traditionally a rank for division commanders). You would have to make a new custom scenario, but basically you could just copy the original scenario you want to play, and then add a custom leader in an empty slot to it, then assign that new leader to a corps command, or leave him unassigned in the general pool.

Many thanks, sir.
I have just logged off after playing my opening moves on the road to Minsk.
So much fun, I can’t believe it’s almost 00;00hrs!
I will most definitely try to add my custom character tomorrow, before I loose track of time playing 😂

Generalmajor
I am having a few problems getting the game to save my character.
I have managed to increase the scenario to 5 turns instead of 2 as I wanted to experiment with logistical support.
I have also added my custom photo.
But it will not save the name change or the altered stats, admin, moral etc.
I could not work out how to add a custom commander and reassign him to the position I want.
I instead tried to edit the commander who's position I wanted. Is this why it keeps reverting to the original name and stats?

This looks fantastic.

I always thought the game needs some fun personalisaton to add some stress breaking humour.
Molotov : This we did not deserve.

Foch : This is not peace. This is a 20 year armistice.

leader data is stored in generic data, adding a commander would affect all scenarios. You can't save him in a scenario unless you are able to lock generic data for this scenario.
WitE dev team - (aircraft data)
WitE 1.08+ dev team (data/scenario maintainer)
WitW dev team (aircraft data, partial data/scenario maintainer)
WitE2 dev team (aircraft data)

I find it really adds to the experience and turns the game into a Grand strategy/wargame RPG.
The units under your character's direct control become an extension of self and no longer just numbers on a counter.
The cool thing is, the leader system within the game with all the stats, etc just works really well for an RP character.
My ultimate aim once I learn how to use the editor properly is to create the "1st SS okkultistisch Corps".
Then create special victory hexes based on religious sites where fabled religious relics and items are hidden :)

Many thanks for the info.
I tried to alter the generic data but the save button is greyed out.
Could you possibly give some tips on what I need to do in order to get this to work?
Cheers :)
Edit: Figured it out now :)

fb.asp?m=4990181

Looks like it is temporarily disabled, but should be possible after a later patch soon™.

Many thanks again Darojax.
I had a tinker with the generic tab in the editor and managed to save the changes I want :)

Ah, yes. The looks come from my mother's side [:D]
He just took Minsk on the first turn.
It even updated his victories [:D]
