Micromanagement Priority

Post by Bamilus »

From the vets of WITE or beta players of this game, if you had to recommend an order for a new player to start to wade into micromanagement, what would it be? I'm thinking "biggest bang for your buck" payoffs. I've been playing and having a lot of fun, but I don't quite want to micromanage everything yet. Right now the biggest areas of micromanagement I can think of are:

1. Air war
2. Production/TOE/theater box movements
3. Support units
4. Logistics/depot creations

There are probably some others, but in terms of importance does anyone have any recommendations? I'd like to slowly add more micromanagement to my game but some feel better than others. Off top my head if I head to guess I'd say air war and logistics would be the highest followed by support units and then messing with production/TOE/theatre boxes but would appreciate any experts advice. Speaking mainly from an Axis perspective but same applies for Soviets.

I'd reverse your order to

either of 4 or 1 - depends a bit on which interests you the most, but both are areas where really knowing the system can generate rewards
3
and then
2

but that reflects my view that those items are of little real interest given the wider design choices in #2 compared to #1 and there really isn't much to get out of it over leaving it more or less alone

The Air war can actually be fairly low priority as it has some effects but the major use of the air is Recon or Ground Support. Ground Support is automated as needed and Recon is pretty basic so pretty easy to learn the basics. Beyond that is probably much lower priority.

Logistics/depot creations is an art - not a science - in this game. You will be learning new tricks for your entire playing career of this game/series. So this is a higher priority in my book.

Production is only really controlled that much by the Soviets so will really matter if you are playing the Soviets. TOE is something both sides will use more and more later in the war - if you are playing late war this can be important but early war you can ignore it without real cost. Theater Box movements are optional except for your Reserve. Reserve handling is a top priority for both sides but particularly the Soviets.

Support units will always give you an edge no matter what period of the war or which side you are on. Support Unit creation is only possible for the Soviets but they have more impact on the Axis (in my opinion) as the Axis gain more from micromanagement of SUs than the Soviets.

So if you are playing Axis my order would be: 4, 3, 1, 2. For the Soviets I would rank them as 3, 2, 4, 1. Note these are my opinions and could very easily be completely wrong!
