I think the IRL Battle of the Pockets was like this. General Homa was attacking with 2nd rate troops against entrenched positions that kept getting shot up and pulling back. Homa would try some flanking thing or another and when that didn't work he would go back to direct assault. Mostly garrison and service troops but he kept them attacking because.....well....it was just a Japanese thing. He broke through eventually just based on lack of Allied supplies but he got no points for style. Terrible Generalship

Another quiet day in the air, only 1 or 2 bombing runs in China...

Here they come. I have stripped Ceylon long ago, only 5k fuel and about 10K supplies left. Two brigades are the defense, one at Trincomalee and the other at Colombo.

But the British Navy plus a handful of USN destroyers are here to defend, Plus our Air Forces. 3 US base forces, plus one British construction engineer will head to make one of the land locked British bases on India into a real airport.

Japan has no dl for Ceylon bases...except one point on Colombo.

Another decent day in the air...despite Japan being very quiet.

IJA tank spearhead versus 3 Chinese US TOE Corps plus Stuarts, Mtn Guns, 105mm Howitzers...Forts 2 for the infantry. Should be able to add 2-3 more Mtn Gun units before the IJA arrives.

the shattered 84th Corp is heading to infiltrate Japanese lines to the southeast.

Japan is ramping up their offensive air missions, at Brisbane a fresh Oscar Sentai sweeps, but we stood down our fighters. Japan is forced to use Zeroes in a night role to stop the Hudsons from hitting their runways at Rockhampton.

Meanwhile, in Ceylon a curious development as the IJN force steams west of Ceylon. Japan's base DL is very poor...with only Colombo showing any and that a 1/2.

Wonder if he's going for Addu and Diego Garcia?

Good speed bumps and would certainly help him isolate Ceylon, and possibly invade the West coast of India later on?

But why? Ceylon is untenable for the Allies in the beginning anyway. And it has a nice naval base and airfield that all those atolls will never have

They could be going to those two islands. Or it could be smoke, mirrors, and with a little miss's direction. You know, when you have women driving . . . [;)]

I think he is looking to eliminate or reduce the British Navy as a threat before risking a landing....or just assembling the invasion forces to land all at the same time.

He has no idea of the amount of Allied air force present...over 250 combined British/American plus another 50 British CV planes.

Ceylon is a perfect early war Japanese target for all the reasons you mention, so I have no idea!

Positioning around Ceylon, IJN amphibious task forces re-appear with their fighter heavy CV force and SAGs.

Communication from Japan:

All these warships keep popping up around Ceylon. I thought you would have run away by now :-)

Still no DL on Ceylon bases.

Moonlight 89%...

Can you show how you have organized your hubs? I'm interested in logistics but in the allied side looks like a bit 'excesive' ?

Multiple small task forces of British warships and American Destroyers are sortieing towards IJN task forces looking to invade Ceylon...Moonlight is strong, weather iffy.[X(] Those British Battleships should arrive last...

Six American fighter squadrons are set to contest the beaches and surround waters...

A flotilla of junks are evacuating the last of the Colombo AA...

Subs are vectoring in on Koggala…

It could be an exciting turn!

The British push forward in multiple small taskforces...but it will be a long night as there are thunderstorms and that acts as a force multiplier for the IJN.[:(]

Right of the bat, Ashigara hits with a 20cm shell...she did that in the prior fight too.

This IJN taskforce should be very low on torpedoes though...
