Italian Mobilisation

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Italian Mobilisation

Post by ThisEndUp »

Italy mobilised against me in 1939 in response to the Allies 'preparing an invasion' in a PBEM game. This took me completely by surprise and I am completely unprepared.

I could not find a reference to the mobilisation script in the manual or any of the strategy guides. I also did not have any amphibious transports in the area at all. Does anyone know what the exact triggers are, so I can avoid it in the future?

Lastly, what does this mean for me? Will the normal unit spawns for the British and Germany be brought forward? How screwed am I? I have only what amounts to speed bumps in both the French border and North Africa.

Hi Darius....its probably because of this patch to mirror a WaW rule (They added ships (naval units) getting too close to Syracuse in addition to the original rule of 2 Amphib units, for WiE):

"Mobilization_2 script for Italy amended so they now have a 33% chance per turn of swinging 15-25% towards the Axis if there are 2 Allied Amphibious Transports within 30 hexes of Syracuse Port, or 7 or more Allied naval units within 18 hexes of Syracuse Port (OldCrowBalthazor)."

This wasn't implemented when you and I played WiE last, and I was Allies. Somehow, I got credit for this because during our last WiE match with me as Allies, I had asked if the WaW Italian Mobilization Trigger (having naval units as an addition to Amphibs),applied to WiE also, because I couldn't find any mention of Naval units in any version notes here, just Amphibs.

Well...they applied it soon after, adding naval units. Btw, I didn't advocate this change, though I think its sound adding the ships, but was merely asking if the same WaW rule applied here with WiE about around the time we were having our Mediterranean fandango in the summer of 1940 during our mach that finished a few months ago. [8D]

btw..I posted two Italian Mobilization Trigger Maps below this post and in the WiE War Room...I created these player aid maps so that an Allied planner/player could quickly see where he can place his ships or amphib units safely in case he didn't want to trigger Mussolini on purpose :)RE: Italian Mobilization Trigger Maps

I also created two player aid maps for WaW...they are posted in the War Room forum there. There are slight differences not only because of the scale differences between WiE and WaW...but also geographical factors.

Edit: I think the other event triggers are the same, like Axis getting close to Mersa Matrah springing UK units to deploy in Egypt, etc, etc.

Hope that helps!

Allied Commander's map resource for conducting naval operations in the Mediterranean Sea while Italy is neutral. This can help to position naval and amphibious assets without triggering Italy's mobilization towards the Axis, unless that is, they want to......

Syracuse Port rule:
"Mobilization_2 script for Italy amended so they now have a 33% chance per turn of swinging 15-25% towards the Axis if there are 2 Allied Amphibious Transports within 30 hexes of Syracuse Port, or 7 or more Allied naval units within 18 hexes of Syracuse Port."

Map Notes:
Orange lines are the Amphib Line.
Yellow lines are the Ship Line.
Green circle is Syracuse Port
Number 18 and 30 denote ranges from Syracuse Port.

And I'm glad you mentioned it's not in the Strategy Guides, as including them there is a great idea.

Great work indeed!

I wish something similar would happen to all the scripts (especially for all non-digital-natives or lawyers like me, hehe).

Oh my..two legends (Tanaka and Sugar) giving me high fives has made me blush! [8D]

btw..if there any ideas for any scripts in the current 3 SC titles that could use a visual aid, shoot me a PM. This WiE map image and the WaW map image was fun and interesting to do. ...and was helpful for me too!
