That was about my political rating when I worked which explained my remarkable lack of career progression though old misery guys isn't doing too bad for himself commanding a Panzer Group. 😂

At least he was a brave men. He tried to kill Hitler.
Look at the trial here:

The Nazis removed his belt, you can see it in the first 2 seconds, to ridicule him

Hitler fired him on 20 January 42 for withdrawing without permission. Hitler had him to dismissed from the Army and denied him his pension and right to wear the Army uniform. Hoepner took Hitler to court and won his case before the Nazi's changed the law to dismiss Judges. Hoepner took part in the 20 July plot, and was given a Kangaroo trial and hung. I think Hoepner was one of the true professional soldiers who was going to do the right thing and he paid for it with his life. Not sure why he was given a Morale rating of 4.
In my alternate universe, he will never be fired and even promoted!

After the war Hoepner smuggled diamonds in order to build a satellite with a diamond powered "laser".

Hitler was a big fan of Hoepner until Hoepner issues withdrawal's. That's the reason for Hitler reassigning him to such a trouble front. Hopner thought the retreated order was coming soon and jumped the gun. (Hitler draged his feet for so long before issuing orders in 1941-42 winter withdrawals)

Do note that Hoepner was not a saint...
"The war against Russia is an important chapter in the struggle for existence of the German nation. It is the old battle of Germanic against Slav peoples, of the defence of European culture against Muscovite-Asiatic inundation, and the repulse of Jewish-Bolshevism. The objective of this battle must be the destruction of present-day Russia and it must therefore be conducted with unprecedented severity. Every military action must be guided in planning and execution by an iron will to exterminate the enemy mercilessly and totally. In particular, no adherents of the present Russian-Bolshevik system are to be spared"

RE: Is it just me or.....
I don't think he was in the minority in his thinking either among the senior leadership or Officer Corps, and certainly not the mid to lower Officer corps, which most were not Richwhere Officers, and had "come of age" or were young adults at the time the Nazi's took control. Also, Hoepner is going to say whatever will motivate his troops to fight all that much harder to win, which is another little window in the minds of the people of Germany overall. Nor would I say that particular language would have been considered out of the ordinary, not only in Germany, but I would argue in the US and the rest of Europe.
But now we are going down a very controversial rabbit hole.

Hi Zemke with all due respect - look him up.... 4th PG was great friends with the SS working in his rear area. Ofcourse it is not my intention to go political but the prof. soldier comment triggered me - I much prefer to discuss this great game and his 4 morale rating
so let this be my last post on the subject
