Strategic Bombing Attack figures

Post by wobbleguts »

Hi,

Can someone clear up the attack/defense values when you are about to launch a strategic air attack? Never really understood what all the figures mean. I kept telling myself to check the manual to explain it all and finally did so today.

On page 124 of the manual it says - For example, a Strategic Bombing attack may display “Atkr=1 : Dfdr=2(0)”
for estimated losses, where the resource is expected to lose 2 strength
points and the occupying unit none.

So that makes sense. The defenders predicted unit loses are in the brackets at the end (in a smaller font). But what about the % figure I keep seeing? Where does that come in?

And then it goes on to say - If, like in the example below, there is a white Anti-Aircraft symbol on the right of the information panel then this denotes that the Bombers should expect to receive fire from a nearby Anti-Aircraft unit.

In this example there are no figures in brackets or % odds - just a defender/attacker predicted loss factor like in normal land combat. Why? Is it because there are no resources in that hex so you are only attacking the unit? Can you confirm that (and explain what the % figure means)?

Happy Easter!

To update with an example, I want to bomb Malta before invading with a SF unit.

Select my bomber and hover over Malta.

It says 0 | 0(1)(30%)

So the attacker shouldn't suffer losses, the defender will lose 1MP. Is that correct? What does the the 30% mean?

Underneath the defenders figures it says RESA=5. Underneath the attackers figures it says STRD=1. No idea what these mean. Any help would be appreciated.

It means you are about to perform a strategic bombing run against the resource

Likely to inflict zero damage and take no damage

But also there is 30% chance that you will also do 1 strength of damage to the defending unit
