AI dont eliminate unts and strongholds behind the lines

Post by kotik »

Im playing as the soviets on easy level and I have at least 2 city forts behind enemy lines that the germans ignore and 1 mechanized divison running around freely without the germans trying to defeat it.

I have several fortified areas that the germans simply swept around and now leave alone.

This looks very strange to me, is it a bug or just something that needs some tweaking?

WITE one experienced similar issues where it was perfectly possible to slip a mechanized/mortorised unit past the enemy and the AI suddenly seemed to become blind to it and you could drift around inside germany burning down cities. Sounds like a similar issue.

I've noticed this happen when the Axis AI clears areas around the pocket, but then leaves one or two hexes out of reach. Next turn it doesn't run recon on these hexes, and thus they seem empty of units to the AI and it doesn't reduce them further. I've only seen it in the 1941 GC first turns, so perhaps it doesn't recognise the pockets since the frontline jumps so much? Hard to say as later on the AI doesn't manage to make pockets.

This has been a constant battle by Gary to try to get the AI to deal with units in the rear in the early turns of 1941. He improved it some, but we still had cases of units being ignored for a while, especially when there are a lot to go after. The AI has some units is uses for rear area security but it doesn't always work. Gary found that the only easy way to make sure they get dealt with was causing the main push to slow down. It's been a balancing act. If you can send a save from a beginning of a German AI turn where you think it's not dealing well with your units in its rear areas, we'll take a look. Either zip and attach here or email to 2by3@by3games.com. Thanks.

Thanks for the saves. I have sent them on to Gary. The AI did a decent job except for the unit in Minsk and the unit in Liepaja. Considering it's on easy level, it probably made it a bit harder for the AI to remove these units, but I agree it shouldn't leave them there so long. You mentioned 2 city forts, but I just saw the one in Liepaja. Is there another aside from Odessa?
