after playing some hours...

Post by jnpoint »

After playing and fooling around for some hours I just realised that I have spent at least 80% of the time reading details, reports and charts. It is not a complaint just a fun fact :) And I have to admit that it is quite fun reading all those numbers, and I don't even like math.

Even though wite1 was detailed too I never got into that. I really like this one wite2 and feel much more comfortable with the game (well I do not really understand the AIR war), but otherwise, it is way better for a non-grognant player.

Thank you, that's great to hear. I think WITE2 can be played at many levels, it depends what you are most interested in and what you want out of it. With the various difficulty levels and AI assists, our hope was that everyone could find a level of comfort and then as they explored the edges of that comfort zone find other areas that might be of interest as well.

Agree, with all the numbers, I did the same thing but then I forgot some of the changes I made. Yesterday I realized that I've been playing the first 5 turns in Typhoon scenario with all support attached to OKH.
I pulled them back on T1 so I could re-assign them manually but then I forgot about it and never really payed attention to the battles since I was winning anyway. Turns out my troops have been attacking without any artillery support [X(] It's heavy mud now and I'm 4-5 hexes from Moscow, time to bring out the artillery [:D]

Yes, the best thing is that players are given options now. In the old Grigsby games you either have to accept that you will have to go through that level of data or use third party tools. I love that you can now pick and choose.

Agree with the OP. I had the first wite and never really got into it either. WitW was more my jam, and that's basically because I've read far more about the western side of the allies than the east. WitE2 has kind of shifted that and I'm really learning a lot about the Eastern front that I hadn't known before. I especially love the changes to the air war, even coming from WitW. For whatever reason I've been able to come to grips with it a bit better this time around. Would love to see a similar treatment given to WitP, but I know that's probably way don't on the majority's game wishlist. I have to think a similar system would dramatically aid my ability to play that game, which I already really enjoy while not even really having a clue how to play it properly. A fella can dream!

Keep up the good work!

When friends asked me what i enjoyed about WITE1 (they complained about outdated graphics, mail letters as units graphics, excel with a new face, etc) i would always answer it was the only game that allowed me to configure what colour the socks of an infantry division was wearing, so it could give me a bonus during the 41 winter.

But in truth, it was the middle ground. I can spend one hour doing the details, or i can fire up a turn and just worry about the great picture. And at the end of the day, the impact of that is not a win or lose scenario. Wite is one of the few games that allows you to go as deep as you want to go, and still get results, and i enjoy that.
