144 Yamada Det S2 Claudes near Saigon
I have tried everything to upgrade these guys to Zeros even moving them to Takao with a level 8 AF and 80,000 supplies but still will not upgrade to anything but Claudes. PDU is off.
What am I missing? All other Claudes seem to upgrade fine...

Do they have a fragment at a different location ? A screenshot would help
RE: 144 Yamada Det S2 Claudes near Saigon
I think the "Det" designation means "detatchment". The squadron is split up, with this group being the fragment. You will need to gather the squadron back together in order to upgrade them.
In your squadron info screen, down in the lower left, there is a button that will show you where the squadron pieces are located. Can't recall what the button is called.

Also, if PDU is off, you cannot control the upgrade path. What is the next upgrade for this group supposed to be?

Yes this is the detachment of the Zero group near Saigon at game start. I figured I had to upgrade the Claudes to Zeros first to merge them back together?

Not relevant.
This is a scenario designer decision and the unit is its own unique entity.

Another one of your never ending stupid questions. Questions to which the answer is already provided on the game screen.
Where does it say that this unit has an upgrade path to a different aircraft model. Answer no screen does. So on what basis do you believe you have a right to upgrade the unit to Zeros. The fact that the screen says no upgrade is available is a dead give away.
I can't think of a single question of yours to which the answer is not already:
(a) provided in the manual, or
(b) provided on the screen you have before you, or
(c) is answered by a forumite in a thread of yours but you refuse to accept that answer and restate the question in the same thread

Thanks for your help! I may be stupid but at least I'm not a jerk!
I see upgrade to A6M2 Zero and A6M8 Zero. This is my first time playing with PDU off so I am obviously missing something.
I played Uncommon Valor and WITP more than 10 years ago and am finally trying my hands at this great updated version WITPAE. WITPAE is a whole completely new beast that I am trying to learn. I've been reading the manual and forums voraciously. Do me a favor and never respond to my posts again! Thanks!

Tanaka you are not stupid , this game is quite complicated and some things can be not apperant at first glance. Ignore Alfred he is a powertripping narcist that enjoys belittling newcomers.
In the same screen as your screenshot select A6M2 Zero and press done , you should be able to do the upgrade

Thanks Evoken. I had already done that and it does nothing. Thus my question.

Funny you say something so incorrect with full confidence while calling people stupid. If a squadron has a fragment somewheere else ; supply , airfield levels etc are all at required level, that can prevent a squadron from upgrading.ORIGINAL: Alfred

Alfred
here is a screenshot for your smooth brain;
squadron is based at Calcutta , calcutta has a level 9 airfield , 250k supply , PDU is on , i got plenty of fighters in pool yet i cant upgrade. Do you know why ? Because squadron had some damaged planes at another airfield now they are transfering to calcutta with rail. I cant upgrade untill they arrive. Once they arrive i will be able to upgrade to whatever i want

Tanaka in the screenshot upgrade plane is selected as A5M4 Claude , you gotta click on > upgrade A5M4 text , which will bring you to plane list , in that list select A6M2 Zero and hit done and then you should be able to upgrade

Ok does it have anything to do with the fact that it says it is "not scheduled to be upgraded"?
How do I send the file to you?
