Motorcycle MG teams at work

Post by Resisti »

i'm playing as German a defend generated battle and using those MG teams in order to quickly fill some gaps opened in my lines by my opponent.
They are doing a hell of a good job indeed, wiping out a lot(we are still on 5.1) of infantry,at the point my foe is complaining they are too effective and accurate to be mounted mgs.
I cannot argue on that, cause i dont know how they were used in reality:
were they fixed on the bike and shot while running?
were they dismounted and shot by one the crew, then mounted again?

Could someone enlighten me,pls?

I always assumed it was an MG34 or MG42 mounted on a sidecar. If it had to be dismounted/setup before shooting it would lose its shots after moving during a turn.

I think tracer is right .They were 4-5 motorcycles per squad with side cars and 2 man crew.Mg was on sidecar.Single bikes were primarily used as messengers.

The MG on the sidecar was a LMG and could be used while mounted on the sidecar or dismounted and used on the bipod. The accracy of the MG when moving was not to good. but sitting still the mount was at least as stable as the bipod.

The side-car MG-motorcycles are just "fire-brigades". Usefull as road patrols and to cover gaps with MG supression fire... until the reserve can show up and do the hefty job.

It looks rihgt to me: MG, bipod mounted, firing to moving infantry. Deadly.
