Should I nationalize a scavenging community?

Post by moridin84 »

Is there any benefit to keeping it private?

And I know that people say to nationalize the transport hub but I'm thinking of leaving it private and just building a truck stop outside of the city. Or does having multiple truck stops not help?

Your 1st SHQ will need the additional logistics that a nationalized truck station provides as soon as you have more than 2 zones in my experience. I very often nationalize the scavenger first, as it provides rare metals to you do not get when keeping it private.

It really depends on your starting zone setup. You do start without a road connecting your capital to the unknown or are surrounded by thick forests/mountains? Nationalize the scavenger, as you probably will not have the IP anyway to build your own road soon.

Your capital is connected to several roads junctions? Maybe go nationalize the trucks first. It really depends on your turn 0 analysis.

If I have another ruins nearby, I buy two machines and make my own recycling facility. I like letting the private scav building support the private economy.

Does it support the private economy in some way?

Yes, the population will sell their share of the produced resources for income, which will help them accumulate the funds to build new assets faster. But nationalizing the scavenging community is often worth it because the nationalized version will produce rare metals, which you can usually sell for 4 or more credits per unit to keep your regime funded early on. This is a bit map-dependent, though - there might not be enough demand to sustain the price if you're isolated and have low population, for example.

Should I nationalize a scavenging community?
Absolutely. Always. No quesiton!

Or just start on Techlevel 4, where you start with it Nationalized.
The Rare Metals alone are worth a Fortune to be sold to the trader. 5 Credits/Metal is to be expected.
And I know that people say to nationalize the transport hub but I'm thinking of leaving it private and just building a truck stop outside of the city. Or does having multiple truck stops not help?
If a "Logistics Runner" hits another Logistics Asset, they get refocussed - AP are reset, but a fixed percentage of the capacity is lost. So you want few, powerfull Logistics assets.
Especially now that Vic supposedly fixed Logistics Asset efficiency getting worse with higher Tiers.

zgrssd is 100% on this.

If you don't nationalise the scavenge asset you miss out on the Rare Metals that you need to sell to survive on Tech 3.

The game has changed since launch and logistics assets nerf each other if they run into other logistics assets so nationalizing is the better way to go now for truck stations.

I really hope Vic changes the game and gives you both those assets on Tech 3 in the future as this aspect of needing to nationalize these assets is just a 'gamey' no-brainer element at the moment with no real stategic choice.

I really like the added layer of difficulty when starting at tech III, though.

The light tank model setup of tech IV is another thing I dislike. 40mm howitzer? Just no.

I gave some feedback on the difference between Difficulty and no-brainer decisions:

Especially the higher difficulties just add no-brainer decisions, rather then adding difficulty.
