Ship Death Animation or lack thereof

Post by wetpig »

After re-watching the battle scene a few times and watching Das's breakdown on the battle scene that was released a couple of months ago, it dawned on me the that the ships don't have a death animation, they just pop out of existence upon death.

Given the graphical fidelity that they have achieved in DW2 I think it would be a wasted opportunity if they didn't embellish the combat a bit to really give it that wow factor. When a ship is destroyed it should enter a short animation where it looks to loose attitude/stablisation control and starts dropping, veering off to one side etc, basically going haywire shortly before it explodes.

Sins of a solar Empire: Rebellion really got this right graphically and it was what I thought of when I noticed the lack of animation.

Here is an example of what I'm talking about:Sins Ship Death Animation this isnt the best example as its a modded ship but its the only focused death animation I could find.

Now of course it really matters little in the end whether or not the ships have a death animation or other embellishments (and it may be that they simply aren't implemented in this version) but, as I said before I feel it would be a great shame not to utilise the lovely graphics to their fullest, the game is already set to be a masterpiece in my opinion and these sorts of attentions to detail would be a very welcome icing on a very sexy cake!
