No printing of manual allowed

Post by GiveWarAchance »

Hello I want to print the manual so it is easier for me to read in paper form.
I asked a copy company to print the manual but they refused cause of the copyright they said it has.
They said they need the developers to allow the printing to happen.
Is it possible to okay a photocopy of the manual to read it easier?
Please advise.

I could not find any Copyright mark in the Manual itself. I would guess only the game itself is protected.
Usually it is explicitly written on the 1st page after the title. Right next to the ISBN and contact information for the License Holder. But the SE manual skips that and goes right to contents.
However a Copyshop might err on the side of caution, but that might be too much caution.

It can be explicitly allowed to copy some parts with the phrase "Permission granted to photocopy for personal use only", but I think it has to be on every page that is thus allowed (so it will also be visible on the copies).
A open license like they use on Wikipedia could be applied to the whole book.

zgrssd, the copy company said Shadow's manual has copyright at the end I think on the last page.
Is there a way to have a Matrix person or the dev okay the printing? The manual is far to long for me to read on a screen and it is much easier to read in paper format.

I see some credits for the game. nothing about copyright for the book (inlcuding the EBook).

Indeed the only mention of the word Copyright is in:
"addItIonal CredIts
Uses Miles Sound System. Copyright (C) 1991-2016 by RAD Game Tools, Inc"

Wich is just the normal "here is a Credit for the sound System, be advised that name is under copyright by someone other then me".

There are on-line printer companies that will print it. I have been looking into it myself. I don't want to endorse anyone in particular but I live in the UK and there isn't a copyright issue for me. Maybe it is a regional thing.

The Manual is about as Copyright protected, as any printout of this page that I send to a PDF creation tool.
Most likely the first company he asked simply did not know how this works. Or they are hyper-carefull, to the detriment of customers.

I will just ask a different company to print it. Seems really weird to be so uptight about a simple printout of a game manual.
