Problems with JTCS

Post by deep12 »

Well good afternoon all. Have been playing this series for a number of years, from Win98 I believe. Changed to Win10 from Win7, couldn't find my download from my Win7 so purchased a new download and also a disc. Read the forum and downloaded ensuring I had the correct microsoft 32 bit software installed and off I went. Noticed that when exiting the game (File tab at top left ) the game went straight to the main EF/WF/RS page with none of the awards or "Well Dones" as usual. When exiting completely back to my desktop a Unit info icon appears and when going to my browser I have a background colour change to a Buff colour. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both from the download and the disc where, on some occasions the top toolbar with the exit in is not available. It is now looking as though when uninstalling there are files left over as previous campaigns are still there even though I uninstalled. Have to try and find those somehow. In a bit of a pickle at the moment, need to get back to square 1, may try a recovery unless there are any great suggestions. Cheers

Well looks like JTCS and me don't get on. I have tried numerous installs with 2xdifferent browsers, running as Admin, and not, all with the same result...When playing a mission in a campaign it will not exit correctly ie goes to main JTCS screen showing EF,WF,RS, Manual etc and no further. On closing that screen I get back to my Desktop but the background battlefield sounds are still apparent indicating that the game is still running in the background. Because of this I cannot progress to the next mission, just keeps going back to the last part of the mission just played. The other problems noted in the earlier post are no longer apparent. Any help/advice here would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

One thing I can think of is maybe the save file isn't going into the proper location? Maybe sure it is being saved in the game folder?

Hi Jason, when I exit the Mission part way through, it saves as it does when I complete the mission but that mission does not complete so that when I go back to the campaign I just get the last move of the mission I was playing rather than the start of the next mission. Background battle noise is also evident. I downloaded JTCS from Matrix and have also tried the disc from Matrix, both with the same result as I have with the update.

Hi Jason, in the WF File I can only see the Battle Files for the Scenario I was playing but nothing jumped out at me as being saved files from a Campaign. What format should they appear in?

It should be a .btl file.

What is the last modify date on the EXE's?

14 April 2008 at 2208. The only Battle files that I can see all relate to tee Scenario's I have been playing. Have tried a Campaign but haven't seen the like.

It could mean that one of the updates potentially didn't install properly.

From another thread, this was my install process:
Well, my install process was as follows.

Download and unzip this:

JohnTillerCampaignSeries-SetupRelease-V1DR.exe

Run the executable.

Download and unzip this:

JohnTillerCampaignSeries-UpdateDR-v202.exe

Run the executable.

After that, I launched the game with no issues.

Hallo again, I tried your suggestion but nothing different I am afraid. I also loaded the game, from disc, onto my sons Win10 PC and it worked fine. I think that I shall uninstall again and clear out any files that I can see to do with Matrix, then reinstall using your method, if it fails this time I might get a pro in to actually check out my PC. Many thanks for your help Jason.

Well here I am a while later, have yet to get somebody in to check out my PC but, having done another comparison with downloading to my sons PC, I have realised that on mine the update doesn't load correctly, it comes up with a Min System Requirements error ( I had put this down as the fact that mine was Win10 OS) but on my son's Win10 it doesn't hence a very good chance that this could be the problem. My system has well in excess of all of the min requirements in storage, Memory, CPU speed and graphics card so I am at a lose unless anybody as any ideas. Another item came to light on both PC's when loading the "Forgotten Battles" etc mods on the first campaign, the battle for France, the protagonists come out as German and Polish but the Battle description is orientated around the French/German as would be expected. That campaign then comes up with errors stating that there are no Polish Forces available.
