The North After.

A mechanized is destroyed and Leningrad is isolated.

The Centre After

AGS blows a hole through a relatively weak defence to advance North and AGN has just enough to strength to complete the encirclement. The paradrop helped as well. This is sort of like the historical encirclement of the Kiev pocket, but in reverse.

If I am correct that Hadros saved a lot of his production to build lots of armies, than by my calculations they will arrive next turn.

The South.

Not much action; but I do manage to capture Krivoi Rog.

One odd thing is that for all my attacks (or at least the ones I paid attention to) the Russian HQ Leader was a subordinate.

AUGUST 1, 1941

7 MS sunk. The Brits, IMHO, get in some lucky attacks in Libya that results in the destruction of an Italian mountain corps. At least Tobruk held.

My recollection is that on my turn I attacked the British Mechanized South of Tobruk and pushed it back; but I forgot to take a screenshot.

The North After.

I made a few costly attacks on Leningrad to try and wear down the defenders. I thought the Russian fleets in port might provide coastal bombardment in defensive support so I made several air attacks to try and sink them. As it turns out they don't support Leningrad anyway.

The Centre Before

To my surprise, the Russian armour that were outside the pocket between Smolensk and Vitebsk did not run away. My 2 circled German armour are out of supply. This was expected, but as you can see I forgot to use supply trucks on one of them last turn.

The Centre After

The pocket is liquidated and another Russian armour is trapped in Smolensk.

Forces and Casualties

Russian Force strength is very low. Unless I am correct that Hadros will be getting a lot of units on his turn, I think the Russians are in very serious trouble.

Tech Advancements. My German Heavy armour tech really slowed down, but it is finally ready to advance.

Interesting that you switch to heavy armor...I usually have 42 Breakthrough at that point and 41 heavy...but not 42. I don't add to warships and usually slow my subs down a bit unless I am winning...Close support suffers as Breakthough and Heavy keep going. A

As you said...armor trumps air.

Armour and Mechanized do trump air (by a lot) but heavy armour trumps breakthrough. I only build "heavy armour" mobile units. I do invest in Breakthrough as well until I need the tech points it is using up. Then once my Heavy armour tech has caught up with my Breakthrough tech (usually both 41) I switch my 2 Breakthrough armour units (the ones you start the game with) to heavy armour for a cost of 30 production each.

AUGUST 15, 1941

A good turn for the U-Boats as 11 MS and an escort are sunk as against 3 U-Boat hits.

Hadros bounced back to 1413 Force strength; so I think that means that he built 6 or 7 armies on the first turn of Barbarossa.
