Anniversary?

Hi Charlie Brown,

So you've found the traitor also? Looks like he's appearing in October every year.
I got the same surprise as you about a year ago when I attacked a Jap convoy at Buka and lost my sub to the escort, DMS Long

Here's the thread showthread.php?t=26567

I sent the saved file to Mogami but I don't think he found anything. In the end I got so much to do outside UV so I just stopped playing that scenario.

save file

Post by Charlie Brown »

Sorry tiredoftryingnames, I´m not able to insert the attachment. Only this error message appears if I try to upload the file:

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\MatrixGames\forums\newattachment.php on line 14

I could only send the file directly by e-mail.

To BPRE: Interesting discussion about the DMS Long in the thread you linked to.
I opened my save games switched to play head to head, but I did not found the DMS Long in the Japanese fleet.

I have said this before, and I'll say it again. The two ships in UV that act like characters out of a bad sci-fi movie share the same word in their names: LONG. Somebody needs to find out whether there is a code-related reason. I suspect that it has to do with treatment of ships as "locations," but I'm not privy to the programming.
Put my faith in the people
And the people let me down.
So, I turned the other way,
And I carry on anyhow.

Charlie Brown,

Did you go through all TFs and all ports to look for the ship? I don't remember for sure but I don't think it was shown in the list of Japanese ships.

I just found the old files and managed to load them in 2.30. DMS Long was there but if I look at the list of all Japanese ships it's not listed. You have to go through all TFs or ports to find her.

I guess the other one you're talking about is Long Island? Before today I'd say that I wouldn't think the names had anything to do with it but since the same ship has deserted again, who knows?
The "funny" behaviour is quite different though if we are talking about Long and Long Island so I don't think it's connected to the same fault.

Although I must say that something I've learnt during 20 years of testing software is to never say never.

Unfortunately both saves show DMS Long in Rabaul already so the programmers will not be able to track down how it got there. They really need the turn before it teleports or does whatever to get there. Plus it was played in an older version of UV which invalidates the save going forward. If anyone else happens to see this in the current version and can provide a save of the turn before it gets dumped into Rabaul shoot me a message and I'll look at it.

Thanks
