Making Information Sheets Easier To Read

Post by stryc »

This game likes its spreadsheets. We all do too otherwise we'd not still be here. However, that doesn't mean we need to be made to suffer for our passion.

Vast amounts of information are very hard to read in this game. A simple tweak to the display of such data makes all the difference: add background highlighting to alternating groups of rows. (Example below.) So much easier to read. (Perhaps a little less bright than the below, but you get the idea.)

That is very personal and subjective.

Your proposal makes my reading (so very personal and subjective) very difficult.
I found (so again very personal) an uniform / constant layout far more easy and efficient to read.

I definitively prefer the original.

Which is why such things are usually presented as an option, so everyone wins.

Please... It it is very difficult to follow rows up to the mid and final columns.

We are so devoted to our game : I remember hours spent, eyes bleeding on CR tables, following with the finger on the screen not to loose a line as I skimmed through endless series of figures & lists of soviet leaders finding the right guy to replace the default Bozo Chweik as a CO for an obscure army earmarked for the Steppes Front.
Who said that wargaming was a mild social disease?
Anyway. Everything that improves the readability of spreadsheets is a great idea.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you change in the files to actually do that?

I didn't. It's just a quick and nasty screen grab edit for illustrative purposes.

Joel Billings replied to a thread elsewhere in the suggestions subforum, explaining why they don't reply more to individual suggestions (busy squashing bugs!), and tamping down expectations for major UI improvements down the road. But perhaps one might still hope that this one is sufficiently minor and straightforward to be implemented sooner, rather than later or never.

Wouldn't that be nice.

I know this is a bit of a cheeky bump but these data sheets are _so_ difficult to read as they are. Something (like the above) should be done.
