<summary>Update SM-6 Blk IB (weapon_3772) as hypersonic SSM, more range. Delete MRC SPY-1D radar </summary>

<detail>

The missile should be primarily an SSM (ASuW) missile and not a SAM. It may retain SAM or ABM capabilities but it does not seem to be its primary purpose (especially for the US Army in its MRC).

Image

The missile has been designated as hypersonic (currently in the DB it is not).

Image

With the new booster it is likely to have much longer range as SSM although it is not known but it should be well above the range of the PrSM missile (500 km).
The SM-6 selection surprised me at first, because its reported ranges are well short of the 1,000 miles the Army wants for the Mid-Range Capability. While the real range is classified, estimates range up to 290 miles (250 nautical miles).

However, the Navy is now developing an extended-range model of the SM-6, the Block 1B. (It’ll use the rocket booster from another Standard Missile variant, the ICBM-killing SM-3, which is known to have a range greater than 1,000 miles). What’s more, while the current SM-6 maxes out at Mach 3.5, the SM-6 Block 1B will reportedly reach hypersonic speeds, i.e. above Mach 5. While the Navy plans for Block 1B to complete development only in 2024, it wouldn’t be a stretch to have a handful of missiles available early for the Army’s MRC roll-out in late 2023.
The Mid-Range Capability will slot in between the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM), a 500-plus-km (310+ mile) replacement for the aging ATACMS, and the Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW), whose classified range is in the thousands of kilometers.

https://breakingdefense.com/2020/11/arm ... -missiles/

Also new warhead
The description, however, aligns with the known elements of the SM-6 Block 1B development program. In budget documents submitted last year for fiscal 2020, the Navy described a plan to field the SM-6 Block 1B by fiscal 2024 with a wider, 21-in.-dia. booster to increase the range and speed of the standard, Mach 3.5-class missile, but the documents did not say by how much. The fiscal 2020 budget documents also mention plans to add a new thermal protection system and update the guidance, navigation and control system for the SM-6 Block 1B.

Guerts’ testimony on March 10 is not the first to link the SM-6 Block 1B to the antisurface-warfare role. A presentation by the Navy at the Surface Warfare Association’s annual conference in January 2019 listed the SM-6 Block 1B on a chart as one of several antisurface-warfare weapons. But Guerts’ testimony adds a potentially important detail. He referenced a new “warhead design” for the new hypersonic weapon, addressing a flaw of the baseline version of the SM-6 for an anti-surface application. The warhead on the baseline SM-6 weighs only 140 lb., a mass the Congressional Budget Office cited as inadequate against a modern combat ship.

Extend RIM-174A SM-6 Block IA range to at least 230 nm. Revise SM-6 Dual I and expected SM-6 Block IB range in this light. Move SM-6 Block IB IOC to 2022 and Army MRC SM-6 Block IB to 2023. Revise list of platforms capable of firing SM-6 Block IB.
</summary>
<detail>
The Flight IIA Burke USS John Finn (DDG-113) (#2866) hit a barge target "250+ miles" away with "an SM-6" at UxS IBP 21 using CEC. This is a complex test that needs a mature system. SM-6 Block IB has not yet reached IOC so this is likely an SM-6 Block IA. That implies that SM-6 Block IA has a 230 nm+ range. That in turn implies Dual I has a similar range and that Block IB will have a much longer range.

The .mil budgeting links provide further indications that it was an SM-6 Block IA. As of FY21 the USN had not yet procured any SM-6 Block IB and Block IB spending is slated to begin in FY2022. There's interesting info on 22-26 month lead times for boosters buried in the FY21 Navy Justification Book on page 144. An expected 2022 Navy fielding date comports with Army plans for MRC in 2023.

As for the platforms, only DDG 53 John Paul Jones [Arleigh Burke Flight I] can currently fire SM-6 Block IB. No other Burkes can fire it, so the issue might be with the version of the Mk41 VLS mount on each Burke platform.

They have probably used a SM-6 Block IA missile, the Block IB variant is a hypersonic missile under development and will have longer range.

You're right. I took the DB values for the SM-6 Block IA seriously but they seem to be much too small.

<summary>Add underwater launched AIM-9X and other payloads (decoys, UAVs) for US Navy SSGN Ohio</summary>

<detail>

This is a hypothetical capability but has been tested before. In theory it makes sense for an SSGN since if it has to operate close to shore to insert SOF equipment, it needs some self-protection against small air and surface targets. The missiles would be encapsulated in the VLS instead of some cruise missiles.

The AIM-9X is a LOAL missile so launched from a capsule it could find a target by itself or with the help of a third party asset like a UAV (Blackwing type already in service).

The US Navy also played with a similar concept that has blurred into the developmental shadows in recent years. During the late 2000s, the US Navy, Raytheon and Northrop Grumman worked to migrate the highly flexible AIM-9X short-range air-to-air missile to the undersea world under the Littoral Warfare Weapon program. The AIM-9X would be vertically launched in a canister from a submarine, then the missile would climb into the sky when the canister broke the surface, locking onto its target after launch.

Tests during the mid 2000s had the AIM-9X fired from a vertical launcher as a proof of concept demonstration. A few years later, an AIM-9X was launched from an actual submarine as part of a series of integration tests. Since then the program seems to have disappeared from public view, but it’s likely development has continued on in the classified world—especially considering that submarine-launched unmanned aircraft have been an operational reality within America’s nuclear submarine fleet for some time.

Also, Serbian MIG29s are being modernized to SM standard with N-019M1 Topaz radar(which is a further upgrade of the N-019MP radar on the MiG-29SMP), able to detect a fighter sized target at 120km. Additional air to air Missiles being intehgrated and already purchased are RVV-SD, R-27ET and R-27ER1. There is additional information showing a DECM system may be purchased from Belarus which will more than likely be the Talisman System that is also on Syrian MiG29s. Guided bombs and missiles from newer fulcrum models are also being integrated.

Hi,

Here are some possible changes to the database I recommend:

1. C-130 and C-17 should be able to carry HIMARS.
2. C-130 and C-17 should be able to conduct air-dropping.
3. F-16V should be able to carry AGM-158B/C.

Thank you.

Project 22800 Karakurt Russian Navy Small Missile Ship
Just for emphasis this is quite an important class numbers wise and there would ideally be two DB entries as the first two vessels differ from the rest in having two AK-630M astern not the Pantsir-M combined SAM/30mm CIWS which will arm the bulk of the fleet.

<type>Add</type>
<summary>Project 22800 Karakurt Corvette Mytishchi (Mod 1) -Russian Navy 2018 and Project 22800 Karakurt Corvette Oditsovo/Shvkal (Mod 2) - Russian Navy 2021 (?)</summary>
<detail>First two vessels Mytishchi (ex Uragan) and Sovetsk (ex Taifun) have 2 x 30mm AK-630M CIWS port and starboard astern covering large arcs each side but not forward due to the bridge.
The remainder from the Oditsovo* onward will have the Pantsir-M mount using an 8 pack of SAM's* and 2 x 30mm AO-18KD six-barrel guns in single mount astern. Kozelsk/Shvkal/Oditsovo was launched in 2019 and it's commissioning date is TBC.

*Helpfully it appears the names keep being changed as well as Odintsovo is listed as being the ex-Shvkal (Storm/Squall) as is the Kozelsk but in any event the 3rd vessel onward has Pantsir-M and the video still shows 584 to be named the Shvkal.

*Details of the type of SAM vary from the 20km weapon used in the land based Pantsir to the laser guided 10km Sosna. The former would seem more credible as an effector.
The Russian ships info page has the best presentation of the relevant information.
They are also to be equipped with Orlan-10 UAV's, in what appears to be a catapult launched and water landing recovery system</detail>

Thanks for considering both. K
As per the attached image from a You tube screen shot this is Shvkal 584 before being renamed.

<summary>Russian Yasen-M submarine</summary>
<detail>
The first improved project-885M Yasen-M Class submarine, K-561 Kazan, was launched at the Sevmash yard on 31st March 2017. It is approximately 10-12 meters shorter than the first boat. The reduction in length is distributed across most sections with single frames removed from several places. The most significant external change is the elimination of the large vertical flank array immediately behind the bow sonar.

Izvestia reports on how the Yasen-M SSGN will differ from the original Yasen, the Severodvinsk, including going from 139 to 130 meters in length, a crew of 90 to 64, from 10 torpedo tubes to 8, a more pointed bow, and greater munitions countermeasures.

The improved Yasen M-class SSN is reportedly quieter than the lead Yasen-class boat. It is built with low magnetic steel to reduce its magnetic signature.

The Kazan is fitted with eight vertical &#1057;&#1052;-346 complex (3&#1056;-14&#1042;) silos for submarine-launched cruise missiles as well as 8 torpedo tubes for firing (…) [missiles and torpedoes]. The Severodvinsk can carry up to 40 Kalibr cruise missiles while the second, Kazan, can carry 32.
