units disapearing

Post by dontra85 »

so its the nov 2 1941 turn, first snow turn, and at least one whole corps has disappeared as well as one division in another corps. I checked the casualty list and only lost 7 k in the logistics phase and no lost units for the last two turns. I have also had no withdrawals. Has anyone else had this problem.

Are you sure it wasn't a withdrawal? The game doesn't actually tell you when a unit is withdrawn. It does tell you a unit is going to be withdrawn, but not that one HAS been withdrawn. You have to keep an eye on the withdrawal schedule and remember it is coming. When a unit is approaching withdrawal the date is listed in the unit window, and on the hex pop-up as well.

I'd suggest doing this. First bring up the losses screen (l), and the Destroyed Units tab. See if the missing units are listed there, and whether they were disbanded. If they aren't destroyed or disbanded, then check the Commander's Report, see if you can find them listed there, maybe they are simply not where you thought they were (forced to retreat maybe?), or maybe the game glitched and they somehow ended up way off in the middle of nowhere (did have that happen to some air units). If you still haven't found them then load earlier automatic saves, find where the units weren't missing and see if they are listed as due for withdrawal. If they still aren't listed then they may indeed have outright disappeared, and you'll want to report it as a potential bug in the Tech Support forum.

That is about the time that several divisions are withdrawn. You can check the Event Log under the Arrivals and/or Withdrawn tabs to see where they went.

To clarify what carlkay said - because I had to look around to figure out what he meant - open the Logistics Phase Report (shift-e) then change the filters until only Arrivals and Withdrawals are left.
This only tells you what happened on the *current* turn though, so if they left last turn and you missed it, this won't tell you.

I've made it a habit to always check the reinforcement screen before I start moving. Not just to check if I got something new, but also to quickly scroll down to see if I have any future unit listings with a "MAP" in the "From" column.

the other easy way to keep it under review is to use the unit status map mode, if they are withdrawing in 5 turns they are outlines in orange/brown (I'm slightly colour blind so never trust my descriptions of colours)
