14.5mm PTRD-41

Post by Nix77 »

Why is the PTRD-41 introduced to Soviet rifle and cavalry division ToE way before it's even in production? Especially the 41b Cavalry Division is stuck at 72% ToE only because it will be missing these guns for 4 months, from August '41 to December '41. There's also a huge bunch of rifle divisions upgraded in November '41, just before the PTRD-41 production starts.

Would it make sense to move PTRD-41 production start date earlier, to November or even earlier? One option could be to make an intermediate Cavalry division ToE for August-November'41, without the PTRD?

Simonov had the PTRS-41 designed already in 1938, although it wasn't in production until after Barbarossa started, and the factories producing it were evacuated early. According to some sources, Vasili Degtyaryov had the PTRD-41 designed in July '41 already, only 22 days after it was requested, and in production quickly in August '41. Production of the gun was apparently very easy, since a large number of them was produced in 1941 already (17700 pcs according to http://www.jaegerplatoon.net/AT_RIFLES2.htm).

However, the production numbers with current production dates seem perfectly OK, with around 18000 produced in -41 and 180000+ produced at the end of -42.

I agree that the OB shouldn't have AT Rifles if they weren't in production. I will need to coordinate with Jim as he covers down on the production side and I need to make sure that the OB syncs up with his vision of the production.

Jim says that the ammunition for the PTRDs wasn't produced in enough quantity to be used until December so he isn't going to make any changes to the start date of the PTRDs. I removed the PTRDs from the 41b Cavalry Division and added a 41c Cavalry Division in Dec 41 that has 78 x PTRDs.
