We're likely going with a vinyl liner pool and any concrete that needs to be poured to support it, as well as the deck around the pool can be done almost any time of the year here. I'm hoping to build a pretty big one, around 20' x 50', so it will take a lot of water to fill it for sure!
The fire pit we are going to start with will just be some concrete garden bricks to make more of a camp fire pit. It will all be temporary, with folding camp chairs to set up UP wind from the fire. [:D] After it's relocated for the pool and fencing in the backyard, we'll decide if we want something more elaborate or continue to just keep it simple.
Good luck and congratulations with the new house Mike! Lowes sells a nice kit for just above $200 with your veteran discount you'll get 10% off as well.

My wife and I bought one and the steel is a little heavier than I thought when I ordered it. Real pleased with it. I've seen people build tables that fit over it as a cover and it acts as somewhat of an outside coffee table.
Since we had to sink one end (block) of our pit into the ground we ended up going to lowe's and buying another row of block which was slightly larger which put a lip type finish on it. I felt it turned out nice, some people glue the block in place but none is required.

Good morning all.
Settling into a new routine. Been a busy last week with the Mayo Clinic and started 2nd cycle of chemo plus buying a new stove. Oven element took a big puke it broke up into piece it was hard wired so no replacing the element. Oh well, stove was 24 years old. Boy have stoves change since I bought one for my old house 24 years ago. Most appliances and HVAC in Grand Forks are 24 years old in the existing homes from back then. The 1997 flood. Everything new in the kitchen now except the fridge. Also picked up a $490 kick ass smoker last week for free. Cabela's points on my credit card. Schweet. Old furnace vent in the garage works perfect for venting the smoker. First on the list a beef brisket with a simple dry rub. Then baby back ribs. Neighbors are going to hate me with all those aromas wafting in the air. I may need a security system.[:D]

Sounds like a busy week. If your garage is stand alone, you should be ok. But if you're planning on smoking meat in an attached garage, you may have smoke in the house....GP

RE: THE THREAD!!!
Some of the old stuff is really worth keeping if you can. The kitchen in our house was put in 20+ years. Only recently did the microwave die. The rest works fine. The apt connected to the house was renovated about 5 years ago. The fridge and the stove are both acting up. Sadly cheaper to replace than attempt to fix.

I do not know if you have been to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. If you do go there, I suggest trying Hardy's BBQ there. [:'(]

Shortly after moving into Assisted Living, I told the RN Administrator that I was thinking of starting smoking in the spring. With a confused look on her face, she asked me "Why do you want to do that?"
I said "Fish . . . " Then she looked a little embarrassed.
Unfortunately, even though a decent lake was half a mile away, I did not make it there for fishing. It would have been walking downhill but uphill on the way back and I did not have the stamina.
I went with someone to Rochester for a convention. I looked up online how to get to the motel/convention center and had that written down. Then I looked up restaurants. When we got to the motel, he told some of his friends that I had the directions to the motel then laughingly said something like "He even found a good place to eat. Hardy's BBQ." A women who was helping the motel with us guests turned to him and said "That is a good place to eat." He never said another word about it. [:D]

I cannot recall what it is called but the Memphis BBQ fest is a bucket list item. It's off my list, I enjoyed it once. But folks should add it to theirs if they appreciate BBQ. And if you are in Memphis, the Peabody ducks are a hoot.

I think that the staff and the other guests might be upset if you tried that. [:-]
