NOVICE RTL QUESTION

Post by Phoenix100 »

See the pic below. Can anyone help, please? I'm Axis, playing RTL, still very much learning the game.

It's Turn 5 and I can't seem to get my Air Groups to locate nearer to 4PG. They are all set to advance and follow 4PG, yet they all end up bunching up in Kurland there, ringed in red on the map. I think it's Kurland. I've built many airbases for them nearer to 4PG, but they still gravitate to the north-east. It's AI air assist, I should say. The actual counters for OKL and Luftflotte 1 are located much nearer 4PG, around Daugavpils.

Plus, the same goes for those little automatic rail repair units - one is ringed in yellow. Loads of them end up in that useless corner there, where the rail is all getting beautifully repaired, but I NEED rail repaired in the lines behind 4PG. I keep sending them back to HQ, but they keep coming back up there.

Can anyone help? What should I be doing?

I started with using AI support when I was totally green...but I would recommend to learn to use the Air manually. Once you have learned it, it is worth it ten times up and not that horrific amount of micro that one first could think. I still not master everything 100% and I am not claiming to be anything near an expert, but damn that Auto-AI-Air are not even close to good enough in my opnion.

The AI Air Assist is very much into basing where your supply net is best. The Kurland Peninsula is usually where that is in the AGN territory. The way to get around that is to work hard on the double rail through Vilnius - Pskov and get that functioning. Your bombers will probably stay in the Kurland area - but they can reach Leningrad from there. But with a good double rail to Pskov your Recon and Fighters will rebase to that area.

Thanks Carlkay. I'll try disbanding the depots in Kurland.

But how do I 'work hard' on increasing the double rail through Vilnius? All I can see that I can do is use the single rail repair unit to patch up red spots - is that right? That's a slow business.

Are you using your FBD unit? If not that is your problem. Check out the manual for how to repair rails using the FBD units.

It does sound like you are using it. It really should be fairly fast in AGN / RtL as you will have captured some of the rails intact. You can check out either of my two AARs (Marching to the East) for how quickly the Baltics can be repaired up to Pskov on the double rail with just the FBD unit.

Yes, using it. Thanks. Will look at your AARs.
