Question about after combat

Post by mithril49 »

Hello.....Im new around here so I should intro myself first I suppose. My name is Eddie, from NJ, USA. Been playing comp games, especially strat for well over a decade now, and TOS looks to be a great one. I actually remember playing this game 15 years ago or so on my friends Amiga system. Forget what it was called then, but it was practically the same game...although it wasnt sold, I dont even know where he downloaded it from. Nevertheless, seeing it again not only brings back fond memories, but seeing it so improved (heck, finished) is amazing. Looking forward to lots of playing.

Now, on to the question. I dont understand really at all the experience points awarded after combat. MXPs/OXPS/?XPS or whatever it is. Sometimes my jock will get something that looks like 1115/75/215 or something, yet in HQ under his skills he will have gained 8 pilot, 12 combat, 8 other in exp. With overall like 230 exp to level gained. I just dont get it. Also, I dont understand exp gain in combat in regards to I will run practically the same battle, but one jock will end up with 1000 exp gained to level, while the other will get like 100. My leader already reached green with 6000 exp, while my other three jocks are sitting at 1100 exp, 540 exp, and 450 exp or so. Very confusing! Heh.

Now, back to playing, I still am working out designing some titans, and getting all the distance mods and whatnot understood. Nice complex game, very well done.

Welcome Mithril49,

I'll take a shot at answering your questions, since no one else has yet.

MXP=Movement XP's (from sucessful pilot skill rolls)
CXP=Combat XP's (from weapon hits)
OXP=Other XP's (from other things like Active Scans, DCS repairs)

The HQ development points that you earn for each of those three categories are computed by taking the corresponding XP's and dividing by 15 (or some constant value). That is why you might see MXP's=1000 resulting in Movement Development Points=66.

I believe that the Jock XP value is the previous Jock XP value plus MXP+CXP+OXP for the current mission.

You earn experience by 'doing'. If a jock just sits around during a battle and does not do much they will not get as much experience.

Qualifier.... SUCCESSFULLY doing... sometimes you just have those streaks of bad luck and couldn't hit the side of a barn if you were locked inside;)... failed checks give you squat.
