Noooobie Air Questions

Post by warspite1 »

I want to use the AI to the maximum for air units.

When I tried a run through of the Grand Campaign first turn I lost over 300 aircraft. I assume that I need to change something. But 17.1.1 says:

In this case, the players only need to adjust the AOG’s Stance, HQ Follow/Naval Ops, Asset Priority, and Supply Priority as below.

So this re-affirms my understanding from the guides and section 4, that I don't actually make any amendments to the directives and what each AOG is going to actually do.

So that being the case, why are my losses so high - or is this WAD?

Second question. Looking at Asset Priority, and the Guide #4 this seems to suggest that asset priorities can be all at the same - and that If you set everything to #4 then the air force will try to be evenly divided across your commands.

#5 then states If you don't set different levels the AI won't be able to understand your priorities.

The second comment seems to suggest that setting at the same level shouldn't be done, but the earlier comment seems to suggest its a viable option. Which is correct please?

Presumably if I have Luftflotte 1 and 2 at Asset Priority 2 each but I Fliegerkorps at 3 and VIII Fliegerkorps at 2, then I Fliegerkorps will get priority over VIII?

But if Luftflotte IV is at Priority 1 and IV Fliegerkorps is at 4, then what happens in terms of priority?

Thank-you.

This is WAD. The default Air Directives have too many unescorted bombing runs that get chewed up by Soviet fighters on turn 1.

I really have not played around with the priority settings for the AI. In 41 the Axis do not really need to but I would expect that in 42 it would become good to do. The Soviets can change their priorities easiest just by changing their Following HQ as they have more air commands that support smaller ground forces per command.

I've found that if I adjust the ADs for the first turn and fix the Bf 109 loadouts to use drop tanks, *generally* the bombers are always escorted but there are occasions when the AI forgets to assign an escort flight... (sigh)
