A fairly quiet turn today with the exception of having lost AS Fulton near Dutch Harbor to two torpedoes from submarine I-22.

I do have a related question if anyone knows the answer: Does the size or capacity of an AS or AR vessel impact the ship's repair rates or are they all the same in the game?

Not as far as I am aware. The cargo capacity would have an impact for rearming, but to my knowledge the game considers the dinky Dutch tenders of the same value as the big USN ones. One of the reasons why I try to save that Dutch AR as a priority.

The Australian AS can become an AR if it survives.

Dutch landed forces at Miri and Brunei under very heavy escort. Aside from some Swordfish strikes that sank a few already unloaded cargo ships the landing was largely undisturbed. Dutch also came very well prepared for any air strikes on my part, landing five AA units at Miri.

FYI, mere sharing of results is not the same as discussing best practices for scouting and intelligence gathering techniques...

The unfortunate name of DW1's opponent causes confusion nearly every time it is mentioned. It took me a while to sort out that Dutch is playing the IJ side, while the Dutch are useful Allies of DW1.

It's true it's pretty confusing. Even typing it I almost confused myself. I think I will refer to my opponent as Slith from now on, just to avoid further confusion!

December 18, 1941

I sent in B-17Ds from Singapore and some Blenheims from Balikpapan to hit the Miri oil despite the plethora of Japanese flak there and a squadron of Oscars. The weather was no good though so I only got a single hit. Will try again next turn and this time the B-17Es will join the fun.

I've also decided to forgo the Palembang fortress strategy. I have a very good opportunity to set it up but frankly I think it's a bit unrealistic and I don't want to take advantage.

Final news for today was another successful interception of a Japanese convoy. My opponent (henceforth referred to as Slith) is guarding his direct invasion convoys extremely heavily after the first few turns so I had to look for his non-invasion convoys in the rear. I tracked one near Saigon which I believe was heading to Bangkok, plotted its anticipated course, and struck it at 16 hex range (flank speed) from south of Singapore with a force of British destroyers. Unfortunately one of them took a torpedo and had to be scuttled, but they did their work.

Two loaded transport vessels with all of those squads and devices destroyed, plus the supplies lost and burning up, not to mention the chance of those fires getting out of control? A good choice even though you did lose a destroyer. [&o]

Sub attacks coming as well? Especially for the cripples? [:'(]

Don't fret about it, in about half a year there will be no more sources for further confusion :)

Nice convoy interception! Rooted for you when you did it as Japan with AndyMac

Yes I think it worked out pretty well all things considered. Dutch subs (the country not the player[:D]) are circling around the area. They got a shot at the light cruiser that sank DD Express but unfortunately they missed.

Yes, air search picked up the convoy, and I used signals intelligence to confirm likely destination as Bangkok. Knowing the starting point, the destination, and the speed of the convoy over two phases as six hexes, I was then able to position the destroyer task force exactly where I plotted the convoy was going to end up.

Thanks! Let's see how long the Dutch last as they gear up for their last stands.
