Tactics Focus: What do you do with India?

Post by MattShadowlord »

Hi!
Questions from a relatively new player, which I hope will spark conversation and generate some useful ideas.

I have found three main uses for India in the early to mid game:

1) Invest in Air tech
Send Bombers to North Africa, and later Europe

2) Invest in Infantry weapons and tech
Send troops to North Africa and Egypt.

3) Spend on Diplomacy
India seems a far better candidate to spend on Diplo compared to the UK, which is always in the thick of it and spends every penny they earn.
On a related topic, I targeted Turkey with 2 Chits. Any better targets?

And then later in the game

4) Infantry for South East Asia
Sending men to Burma, reinforcing Singapore and possibly DEI. Progress in Burma and DEI has been very slow.

5) Fighters and Tactical Bomber for China
Fighter support, and help retaking Chinese cities. Against this idea: By this stage the USA will be in the war, can much more easily provide aircraft with better upgrades.

When it comes to getting value out of the Indian subcontinent, what has worked best for you?

Example India Tech: Jan 1942
Infantry 2
Infantry Warfare 1...2

Fighter 2
LRA 1
GRound attack 1

Spy 1
Production 1...2
Industrial 1...2

One of the nicest attributes about India are those big developed ports. Early in the war, it's about the only spot between Britain and Pearl Harbor where you can build your damaged ships back up to full strength.

I prefer to pump out infantry and use it in ME/Africa. Then they will probably come home to defend against JP - or if IJA doesn't come, I try to come to then, preoccupy them somehow. Alternatively, if ITA is exposed, they will jump in.
Going for planes is interesting, but it's kind of 'all-in against Germany' strategy, because you won't have much to defend your homeland with. And planes are very expensive, while India is not that rich in the first place.

Terrain-wise, good ports were mentioned, but what is more, this is a big chunk of land, which may prove a death trap for Japanese forces.
