MARCH 26, 1943

3 MS sunk and 2 U-Boat hits.

Clear weather in Italy so the Allies again go on the offensive. But this time things didn't go all their way.

The attacks on the weakest link in the German line eventually succeed in pushing it back; but it takes 4 attacks and casualties are heavy.

But 5 attacks on the Panzer Grenadier (only 3 of which are shown below) fail to dislodge it. Surprisingly (to me anyway) the enemy delivers more casualties to me with each attack rather than less. Very curious.

In any event, my American armour is now exposed.

The weather is clear in Russia as well. However, the Germans retreated on their turn, so I just advance my units forward with no attacks. I am surprised by how generally strong the German units are. Just a couple turns ago several places in the German lines were defended by divisions and weak units. That no longer appears to be the case.

APRIL 9, 1943

A good turn in the BOA, 0 MS sunk and 4 U-Boat hits.

The Germans did counter attack and eventually push back my US armour in Italy. But defensive shore bombardment ensured that they paid a heavy price. Unfortunately, at 36% effectiveness, my navy is now shot for a couple turns at least.

I first attacked the Infantry corps in the mountains and after 4 attacks finally force it to retreat.

I then attacked the infantry corps on the coast. With no where to retreat it shattered after 4 attacks.

No action worth reporting in Russia.

But in France, a partisan captures Paris. This is bad for the Germans as now Sweden will terminate trade with Germany.

6 MS and an escort sunk, but so is a U-Boat.

Nothing of interest to report in Italy.

The Russians are able to make a few attacks, but not all are successful.

If next turn is clear Operation Overlord will swing into action.

MAY 7, 1943

It is clear on land, but heavy rains in the Channel delay Overlord.

2 MS are sunk and the U-Boats take 5 hits. The BOA has definitely swung in favour of the Allies. But the British still have fewer MS than they require to transport all of their resources.

It is clear in Italy, but the Allies need to recover effectiveness before tackling the next line of Germans.

7 MS are sunk, but so is another U-Boat.

This turn the English Channel is clear, but there is heavy rain on the continent. So Overlord is once again postponed.

In Italy the Allies continue to recover.

In Russia, the Bridgehead over the Dneiper is expanded and a panzer mauled.

JUNE 4, 1943

1 MS and an escort sunk along with 3 U-Boat Hits.

The Weather in NW Europe finally clears enough for Operation Overlord to go into action. A Total of 3 UK and 4 US infantry and mechanized corps hit the beaches while 2 British and 2 American paratrooper corps land in Rotterdam and behind enemy lines. An additional US mechanized corps was supposed to land SE of Cherbourg, but I moved it to far and it didn't have any OPs left. Dumb move on my part cost me the chance to take Cherbourg.

In Italy, the Allies continue their advance up the Adriatic coast. With naval assistance another German armour is destroyed. I don't think the Germans have too many left.

With the breakthrough achieved I could have gambled and driven North several hexes. But as usual I made the safer choice.
