1st Turn Minsk-Bialystok Pocket Advice

Post by PeteJC »

German AI did a good job of pocketing 29 divisions, 9 rgts and their HQs HQs in the area from Minsk to Bialystok. Units will not be able to break free or be relieved. my question is do I:

1. Sit them there and do nothing saving as much strength for their inevitable demise next turn.
2. Do hopeless attrition attacks on my turn. Taking a handful of Germans but greatly weakening my units for the turn 2 clean up attack.
3. Move them all into the nearest heavy woods.
4. Move them all into the MG/Art battalions - unit symbol that look like a pillbox. (Germans left about 6 of them).

spread them out, so that each costs a new CPP reducing attack. If you can place them on any dual rail track (the Vilnius-Minsk and Brest-Minsk) lines, that'll have a marginal impact on axis rail repair. In the main the cav divisions may have a residual combat value, so could be an idea to cluster them into poor terrain (you might get a hold when they are attacked)

Thanks. So it seems those little fort battalions are pretty much useless. Thought they may have given some added defense.

they have low TOE and are at risk of just evaporating on contact, so no reason not to use those hexes but I wouldn't see them as anything particularly important

Like Loki said - spread them out. Look for unguarded HQs, depots and airfields and displace them. Consider invading Poland to chew up rail lines. And if possible try and hide one out of the way - sometimes this leaves the AI absolutely flummoxed.
Molotov : This we did not deserve.

Foch : This is not peace. This is a 20 year armistice.
