What is supposed to happen with A-bombs if not used on Japan?

Post by Illiniwek80 »

Just played a game where Japan surrendered in 1944 (congrats, AI!). Shouldn't the AI have sought to use them on Germany, since they were within range of Britain? As it is, the Americans missed their opportunity and I'm now patrolling the streets of Chicago.

Since the atomic bombs are more a conditional event than an actual weapon in this game, I guess a script would have to be written for their possible use against Germany if they are still standing in 1945 and Japan isn't.

Just probably one of many historical anomalies that either weren't anticipated or were just overlooked during the game's development. Maybe they can work it into a patch at some point.

So the AI didn't use them against Germany. Can a human player do it?

Don't think so.

That's a shame.

It's kinda difficult to drop a bomb you don't actually get. Atomic bombs aren't something you purchase or research in the game.

I must admit that when you get Allied heavy bomber tech up to four, they are almost as good as atomic bombers. Currently, I have three US strategic bombers based in China under the command of General Buckner that are absolutely leveling Japanese MPP production cities on every good weather turn. The maritime bombers based in the same area are tearing Japan's convoy lanes to shreds.

Looking at the plummeting Japanese morale levels I may not need the atomic bomb to bring about Hirohito's surrender speech.

Jesus. I guess Axis gets banged hard later unless you get an early insurmountable lead.

Axis powers in this game mimic Mike Tyson - Unbelievably fast starter but gasses out after just one "load"! ;)

What's that old slam on Germany's war record? Oh yeah.... "Quick out of the gate, but fades in the stretch." [:D]

Wow! So if you play as the USA nukes are just gifted to you at a certain date? I haven't played as the USA yet but assumed you would have to spend a lot on research etc to develop them. It seems a bit odd you get them for free based on a game event.

But then again remember Einstein figured out relativity when an apple fell on his head - so sometimes these things do happen.

I will continue to disable all nuke options in my games for now.

Yup. It's Decision Event 309. They are not quite free as you have to pay a cost of 600 MPPs in installments to use them. However, if Japan immediately waves the white flag you may never have to pay the full price. I imagine if they were an actual research item the MPP outlay would be enormous if history is anything to go by.

Which explains why you wouldn't be able to drop them on Germany later. Thanks.
