Road to Minsk Scenario VP?

Post by Haynam68 »

Hi everyone,

I keep getting a minor defeat on Road to Minsk, despite haven taken all but 2 of the VP locations (worth about 50 - 100 VPs all in).

The Soviets keep getting an ET 500 and EG 500 points for Minsk. I let them keep the city on T1 (I close the pincer east of Minsk) and then take it on T2 with motorized infantry. However, despite having full control of the hex (I get the 200 points) at the end of T2, the Soviets walk away with 1000 points and I can't figure out why...

Help?

the Soviets get a VP per turn for Minsk that drawfs everything you can possibly gain. Have a careful look at the scenario VP table as it makes a distinction between VP for holding a location each turn and VP for holding a location at the scenario end.

More generally, the scenario is designed to get you up to speed with AGC and the opening moves on that sector. There are 2 things that matter - secure the Bialystok pocket and take Minsk on T1.

Beyond this there are subtleties around keeping the Soviets off the dual track rails, limiting your losses etc, but the pocket and Minsk are absolutely essential (for T1).

The reason that the Soviets are getting the Minsk VPs twice is that the Each Turn award is checked for both sides in EVERY logistics phase. So the Soviets hold Minsk during their turn 1 Logistics Phase and gets awarded 500 pts. They still control Minsk during your Turn 2 Logistics Phasse so they are awarded the 500 pts again for a total of 1000 pts. You MUST take Minsk on turn 1 otherwise you will lose the scenario. Your tactics will work okay for the 41 Campaign but they fail in the Road to Minsk scenario.

Change scenario name to "Minsk or Die" to make it more apt [:D]

That did it. Taking Misnk on turn 1 = big axis win.

Thanks everyone for the help.
