Useful OOB Sites/Webpages

Post by BeirutDude »

I was thinking it might be nice to have a thread for sites designers have found useful. A couple I like are (and try to cross reference)...

Aviation OOBs
https://www.scramble.nl/planning/orbats

Eastern OOB
http://www.easternorbat.com/index.html

Interactive map of Russian Forces

Historic USN Carrier Deployments

Japanese Self Defense forces air OOB

Cold War Military Airfields

USAF/USN/USMC Aircraft Call Signs

Random one that I came across recently, specific to ru and ua.
https://www.numbers-stations.com/milita ... h-borders/ for some comms\ew stuff, though some of it is covered by what gfsis.org has.

Soviet Armed Forces from 1945 to 1991, although there is some stuff up to current day as well.

There is only a broad overview for certain years however, so if the actual year you want is not there, you will need to go through unit by unit, formation by formation to piece together the OOB, although it is not too hard. For example just going through the Missile Divisions is pretty easy for trying to make an OOB for 1983, all you do is go through the Missile Regiments and check whether they were active or not.

Also, I recommend this thread be stickied (or whatever it is called).

BeirutDude, KnightHawk75, SunlitZelkova,

Thanks for these guys! I've added these references to the unofficial Command Dropbox reference library.

Unofficial - i.e. not sponsored by WarefareSims, MatrixGames, Slitherine, their employees, relatives, pets or ancestors.

As always, any forum member can have access to this Dropbox resource. Just PM me with your email address.

This site is poorly designed, but there's a ton of great data in there:

Thnis site lists deploymen history for many US Navy ships.
https://www.hullnumber.com/index.htm

This site can also be used to figure out who was where for the USN (I absolutely love that they have collected so many cruise books here):
https://www.navysite.de/ships.htm

This has some great info on the Ruskies:
http://russianships.info/eng/

Don't forget to make hte most of american tax dollars at work. There are so many declassified documents here that can help fill in the gaps:
https://www.cia.gov/readingroom/

This is an archived site, so I have no idea how long it'll be around, but it can give you what you need for the Iranian Army of the Shah.

A great site on Soviet and Russian submarines (better than others) including individual boats careers (You can use the top of the page translate button):

Not really OOB related but I've found these to be helpful:
https://www.af.mil/About-Us/Fact-Sheets/
https://www.afhra.af.mil/

AFHRA in particular is a good source for looking up USAF unit lineages, stations, etc. Be aware its not always up to date.
