Why is Air Doctrine ignored?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Why is Air Doctrine ignored?

Post by lekseus »

I set the escort ~30 in Attack and Ground support fields.
But when enemy attacks AI sends bombers without an escort again and again. I tried to decrease the Commitment level on Bombers airbases - no effect.
How to deal with this issue?

I'm sorry but I don't uderstand the question.

Setting escorts here controls the percentage number of escorts compared to the bombers sent by the AI. It has no effect if you do everthing manually.

The escort setting above has nothing to do with intercepting enemy bombers, that's Fighter intercept, however unlike the escort setting above, these fighter intercepts are alway under AI control.

The aviation commitment level has nothing to do with air directives or air ops of any kind. All it does is provide semi-automatic deployment of air groups to a/b which, again I'd do manually. Have look at section 8.4.3. of the unofficial manual for details.

It happens during enemy attacks, I don't do anything manually.
AI sends my bombers to support defending forces without fighters at all despite settings in the Air Doctrine.

Q: How to prevent it?

Post a pic of your air directives

It says I'm not allowed to post links. I tried to type those directives down, but the forum doesn't even allow me to type numbers.
Can I pm you?

You can't post links but you can upload jpgs. Not sure why you can't type numbers, that makes no sense.

I thought maybe you had to many escort percentages to high but there're not.
There are a number of things that can prevent groups flying, morale, fat, number of ready a/c, commander, range, distance already flown etc and there's been numerous threads about it.

If you download the unofficial manual and search/index it will show you how to set range. Basically in the commander report under air groups, GR column or directly under a groups report.

Personnal I'd use manual ops, using the AI as little as possible.

Thanks. Guys on another website told me its a well known issue and there's no way to get rid of this completely. Just move airbases with bombers further away from the enemy than bases with fighters.

Yes the norm is to have fighter bases closer to the front than bomber but setting range is also important.

If I want to stop fighters to escort bombers what do I need to do?
I put that number to zero in the Doctrine - no effect.

Manually opening every airbase with fighters and set the commitment level to zero isn't very convenient.

There's a separate directive for escorts
