Soviet Air Army with no planes

Post by 76mm »

One of my air armies is subordinated to a Front but has no planes, and there is no way to set asset priority or to have to follow a particular HQ. It has been like this for many turns now. What is going on, and how can I get it some planes? I'm trying to use AI control for the air stuff.

You should be able to manually reassign some AOGs to the Air Army.

But why should I have to? Why can't I assign an asset priority?

which air army is it. If its drawn from one of the off-map theatres then it doesn't work as the others do. In time that move will be prevented (even with full theatre control), at the moment its just strongly suggested don't (for this reason).

if its one of the regular air armies then not so sure, but an image might help

It's the 16th Air Army...I don't think I transferred it from an off-map theater, in fact I don't even know how to do that (so I guess I might have done it accidentally). I noticed that it did not have any air directives (I thought that the AI would do so), so I manually set one this turn.

I can post an image, but of what? There isn't much to see... The Air Army counter shows supply priority 2; no setting is show for asset priority (asset priority is just not there). Zero aircraft. This has been like this for at least ten turns now, probably longer.

guess an image might just help interpreting your problem?

as you present it, its probably a bug so best reported that way.

Like I said in my last post--happy to post an image, but of what exactly?

Use the A Key to bring up the air commands. Click on 16th Air Army on the map and post a pic of that.

That's the thing--the 16th Air Army did not appear on the map like the other AOGs when hitting the A Key--there was just nothing there. The Air Army HQ counter was on the map, but there was no way to set asset priority, or as far as I could tell, transfer air groups to it. Then suddenly--after many many turns--it appeared on the map and started filling with planes. Not sure what happened, but I might have "borrowed" this air army from the Caucuses--not "off map", but the "on map" part.

AI Assist isn't perfect. Once you assigned that Air HQ to the front, it still had no asset priority. Had you manually assigned an AOG to it, everything would appear as normal using the A Key and you could have adjusted the asset priority. Then you would have gotten the numbers that you were looking for more quickly.

The air armies do not show if there are no planes assigned. However, when sending planes to the amp there should be a drop-down menu that allows you to choose which unit they will be assigned to. You should be able to attach planes to the unit this way, and then it becomes visible.

OK, this was my first game and I totally relied on the AI to transfer planes back and forth, so didn't actually transfer any planes the whole game. I have to say that I find the air war a bit intimidating so far.

I had the same issue with the Soviet 17th air army. Since the air HQ did not appear on the map ('a' hotkey), there is no way to manually add air units to it. I ended up fixing it by moving the HQ counter on to an empty air base and transferring an AOG to the airbase. It auto assigns the AOG to the nearest air hq. At that point, the air HQ appeared on the map during the air phase (or pushing 'a')
